I have done this before using a win 2000 machine, but cant seem to find out how to do this with win XP pro. It might have to do with me not remembering because its been so long.

Anyways, I'm trying to set up my friends PC so their son can't log in and use the computer between 10pm and 6am (i guess he plays PC games all night). I looked through user config in computer mgmt and gpedit.msc, but couldnt find where to set it up at. Is there an option or setting I need to enable in order to get more user policy settings? Can someone briefly walk me through this to help spark my memory.

Thanks guys!

As far as I'm aware, you would need to be running a domain environment to restrict the hours..

Or you can download a 3rd party piece of software that could probably do it, but since I don't have kids and the people I know whose kids use the computer at night punish them, I don't have this problem. :)

Its under User Accounts in your Control Panel.

I can't give you exacts, as i'm at work... but I believe its an "Account Settings" link or something of the sort.

Hm... Just looked around, don't see anything like that.

Double check.. maybe I'm overlooking it if you think you're right but I don't see anything.

I seem to recall some sort of command for that. Some thing like:
net user username /time:M-F,22:00-06:00

I'll dig around my users manager when I get home to see if there is something else. I dont think any solution built into a standalone windows machine will force logoff though. You would need 3rd party software for that.

The syntax of this command is:

NET USER
[username [password | *] [options]] [/DOMAIN]
username {password | *} /ADD [options] [/DOMAIN]
username [/DELETE] [/DOMAIN]

** Only if joining a domain can you specify logon/logoff hours.

He'll need to use 3rd party software to achieve his goals (as they say in the stupid test questions. haha)

Yeah, I couldn't find it anywhere on my home pc.

I do a lot of Active Directory stuff at work, and thats where I saw it. But I imagine you don't have anything like that going at home, so i'm clueless.

Sorry
