Please tell me your experiences with ink for Epson printers
that was not manufactured by Epson but by independent companies (Microjet etc.)

It resulted in the death of my printer. Bet that makes you feel good doesn't it. :)
Actually it wasn't store bought ink that did it but some that I bought online. These weren't refills but they were generic. My printer worked perfectly. Went through 3/4 of this cartrige and it never performed the same.

There's a generic brand I've seen in stores (can't think of the name but its in a yellow package) that I used on another printer and never had any though.

I've used Korectype brand ink cartridges and they work pretty decently for their price. If you look closely, you could see a difference in print quality of even text... but it's not too big of a deal.

I just try generic ink I get from the internet. The quality is lower then the original ink. When you print text the quality is still acceptable. You can tell very easy when you print graphic. The color is not even and there are many white strips.
