I am building a new system based on the ASUS P5W-DH MB.

The system's main use will be for gaming.

I need some help choosing a good DVD Drive /Burner for the system. I would like to keep the price under $60.

Here is what I am looking at:

BenQ DW1640 16x DVD±RW
NEC 16X ND-3550A

I really liked what I read about the BenQ, but I cannot find that anywhere. I know they released new models (1650, 1655) but I can't find any good reviews on them.

I havent read too much on the NEC but it seems to be at the top of a lot of people's lists.

Anyone have any comments or recomendations on the drives above? Or suggestions for other drives?

I would recommand the Pioneer DVR-111EXL,
Plextor 760A is another choice but it is more expensive than your budget(about $ 99)

One of our hardware magazine had tested 11 brands and types ,the best burn quality belongs to Plextor 714AL and BenQ 1620 Enhanced Edition(in the year 2005), the disc they use include Vertbium, Mitsubishi , and Taiya Yuden. They mainly use Nero and KProbe.

Indeed. 12x DVD-Ram is a very nice touch, cuz there is no DVDRW DL, so it would be awesome if you can burn into DVD-RAM

I've got an LG that has been on heavy duty cycle since last winter with no problems. IIRC, I've had only 2 failed writes out of maybe 500.
