Hi, i would like to know what would be the best video card for me (also pretty cheap).

Setup,

AMD athlon 64 x2 4200+
-dual core 64-bit processor 2.2 ghz, 2x512 KB LS cache,2000mhz sys. bus

Nvidia geforce 6100 intergrated graphic
(i have a pci express slot avalible)

hard drive
-320GB

memory
-2048MB DDR dual channel

9in1 memory card reader

network
-10/100 mbs ethernet

Micro BTX system design

I want it for mostly gaming, I play wolfenstein 1.0,1.4 and quake3.

Would like a card under $250 and get pretty high fps , 300+ would be great.

X1900XT 256mb is about $250 at newegg. I think that's best choice.

Like Prozac said, $240 on Newegg... in the same league as the $380 X1900 XTX and 7900 GTX.

That sounds like a exact gateway setup. If you want a x1900xt, then rip out that hunk-a-junk PSU, and get a new one. Not sure what would fit a Micro BTX design though.

While I agree with you and prozac that under $250 screams X1900XT, did you look at the games he plays? Wonder how X2-4200 and a X1900XT would do at Quake 3 and Wolfenstein.

Not to foil your sale, but he could buy a brand new card for less money that is overall equal or for a bit more money easily faster than your card. Shoot, my X1800XT is also equal or a bit faster than yours and he can have that for $225. :roll:

Also its gddr3 ? I suppose thats the memory? Will it still work for my computer? I have ddr.

Also is there a different between pciexpressx16 and pciexpress?

Best gaming card for under $250, but it probably won't fit in your micro BTX system with it's stock 2 slot cooler.

For a very cheap great value, I recommend the X800GTO for $100. I have this card on my old pc and could still run FEAR, BF2 and Oblivion, not in an eye-candy quality but it's playable if thats what you mean. 7900GS or X1800GTO for $200.

Forget teh 7900GS and X1800GTO; you can get an X1900GT for $200, and a 256MB X1900XT for $240. Both X1900 cards eat the 7900 and X1800 for breakfast.

Card will serve you well....

but, you may want to consider that the x850xt pe is on par with it in FPS in alot of benchmarks and is only $115. This will help save some cash until DX10 cards start to appear in January. That is... if that is a concern.

PCI express is generally assumed that it's the 16x version, but isn't always the case. There is maybe a few video cards that can run a standard PCI express (x1) slot (used to be where the regular PCI slot was before in older systems).

99% of PCI Express video cards run only in the dedicated x16 slot on your motherboard, so if you don't have a PCI express x16 slot on your mobo, than you won't be able to use it.

If you are familiar with the AGP slot that was used in the past, then the PCI express slot does the same thing, just it is the newer standard.

Most newer mobo's have 1 x16 PCI express slots (for video card), 2-3 x1 PCI express slots, and maybe 3 (regular - older version) PCI slots on them. This can make it confusing to alot of people if there not aware of this.

What is the motherboard that your putting this video card on?

The DDR3 memory on the graphics card is for the graphics card only,it wont effect your system memory.If your getting a 1900 be sure your have 2 slots(one for the pci x16 where it plugs in and one for the cooler exhaust)Plus youll need to have a good power unit(psu)

This is a decent card, little old, but probably wouldnt have to make you replace your powersupply i think. Nice price too.

If, by PCI Express, you mean PCIe x1, the difference is that PCIe x16 has 16 times the bandwidth of PCIe x1. Also, all new video cards are made for PCIe x16; I only know of one or two for PCIe x1. I think PCIe x1 was supposed to be a replacement for the regular PCI slot (which dates back, I think, to around 1993-ish), but it never really caught on.
