you have the option to walk a certain amount(im not sure and youll see why in a sec) or do the run, which I do every year, just because you have to be a punk to just take the walk.
now honestly, most of the guys in my unit do the walk, but you have to be in a certain bracket even to be able to do the run(without dying, cuz we have alot of fat ass lazy folks in the unit, no offense to the guard, lol.) I do the run because i fit into that bracket.
the national guard (regardless of branch) has a lot of fat fcukers. but they have a lot of bad asses too. buddy of mine is a Special Forces national guard soldier... rare to come by. SF likes to recruit active duty... but every once in a while they open training to NG. even air force. i've seen a few special forces air force guys... threw me for a loop when i saw em, but they exist.
was working a gate one time at ft. lewis (this was in the middle of OEF) and a black tahoe w/ government plates rolls up. they roll the windows down and the first thing i see is this scruffy looking guy with a beard and deep tan lookin' at me. i look inside the tahoe and it's loaded with dirty, nasty bearded white fellows; none wearing uniforms. i'm like WTF... driver hands me all the ID's and smiles. then it dawned on me... 1st Special Forces Group... just flew into McChord AFB from Afghanistan.
total bad asses.
i don't care what the marines say, SEALs got nothing on Special Forces. Only 1 Delta Force exists and it ain't made up of SEALs.
the coolest thing about SF is anyone can apply. SEALs is a political and "good sailor/marine" program. you can't join the marines and go straight into SEALs. With SF, so long as you've got 6 months in (or enlist for 18x), your a E3, and score above a 229 on your PT test (not hard), you can go SF (assuming you complete the initial 30 day course). then it's on to your Q courses (tough too) and BAM... your out killing hadji's.
anyone can be the ultimate soldier if you've got the guts.
yeah no sh!t, i dont claim to be badass like those guys man, i mean im proud of what i do; although it is minimum to what those guys do. SF any branch is hardcore, and deltas own most.
I thought about going SF when I was in, but i decided it was too hard core for me. Their training takes about 3-4 years to complete and you're away from family for the majority of it. I saw a lot of people lose their marriages over SF.
It's definitely not a good lifestyle for a family man. Gotta have a really, really good wife.
I'm not going to go looking for the thread again, it's buried too deep for me...
