I was just downloading ATI's newest version 6.9 drivers and I decided to read through the release notes. One of the new features was that Crossfire was now supported for the Intel 965 chipsets. I currently own a DQ6 and someday I would like a multi GPU setup. My question is can this board have a Crossfire setup now since drivers are supported even though the board only has two PCI Express 16x slots, one running at 16x and the other at 4x?

Does anyone know if the 4x link will inhibit the performance at all. I've heard that current GPUs can't fully utilize the bandwidth of 8x, but what about 4x? Also has anyone setup crossfire with this board yet? If so, please comment on performance and any difficulties.

I ended up answering some of my own questions. For anyone who is following this thread, this link has some useful info. Shows some tests with similar 965 chipset motherboards in Crossfire.

I have just installed a ATI X1900XTX board in my DQ6 and i am sure there is room for another card on the other PCIe slot.

This is what the insert with the card says:

Radeon X1900 Crossfire configuration [ Dual Graphics Card System ] requires a 550 watt PSU with 38 Amps on the 12 volt Rail.

Cross fire requires a PSU with 2 PCIe 6 pin power connectors, if the motherboard is Cross fire compliant.

You not only have to get another card but Probably another PSU.

Did you read the Anandtech review of Quad core which is comming out in November .

Cheaper than 2 graphic cards, I think.
