What are pixel pipelines?? I'm looking to buy a new card. But don't know if i should go ATI or NVIDIA. nvidia has up to 48 pixel pipelines and ATI has only 16? WHAT are they? and is it that big of a deal?

*sigh*

TBH there arent any more "pixel" pipelines in current GPU architecture...I've tried to relate that. That being said, Nvidia doesnt have a 48 physical pipeline GPU, neither does ATI. The approach is in shaders where an ATI GPU can shade 48 pixels per clock and Nvidia has there "quad" assignment....so pipelines arent really anything that are considered existent even by the manufacterors.

So with that small rant aside. My personal choice for GPU (if you have the $) would be an X1900XT.

hmm...then i dont see why they still put up pixel pipelines in card features/discriptions. oh well it doesnt matter thanks for the update. and ya that is the route i was planning on going thanks

No disrespect......but you would be the prime example of a person not knowing what to pick, and why they label things with "pixel pipelines"....

I think part 2 is the one that'll help you out most regarding pixel pipelines but i cant remember. its worth reading them all though, it'll only take half an hour at the most, its well written and gives you a good understanding. :D

Ya I know I'm not up to date with all the new technology. I got out of the PC gaming world for about 10 months. But now I'm back to the good ol' gaming life :)
