Ok, I decided to build myself a new system

The components are on the way:
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600
2Gb Kit OCZ Gold Gamer Edition RAM 4-4-4-12T E.P.P. SLI Cerfified
P5N32-SLI Premium (Already Pre-Ordered)

Not Yet Released

I went this route so that I could run one ATI card for now and go SLI once the Direct-X 10 cards are released witht he new geometry shader models.

Now by reading this review with actual comparision screenshots I was able to determine that I want to go with ATI for visual quality.

The images are mouse rollovers

Notice the gun scope and the upper walkway that is visible

Look at the HDR lighting difference

Look at the tree texture difference

What other type of video cards would produce the same quality?
The highest resolution I game at is 1280x1024 so I don't need cards for 1600x1200 or above.

I'd like to save as much as I can and buy a Direct-X 10 card later on.

What card would you recommend for this type of visual quality?

Thanks for the assist!
