I installed windows on my new machine a few days ago, and have set up most of my software. However I realised I had not installed ahci drivers (my Sata raptor 150gb and sata2 Seagate 7200.10 were in ide enhanced mode).

I found a link where there were some instructions for installing the ahci drivers after installation of windows, and i now have the drives set to ahci in the bios and i can se ich7 Ultra ATA & SATA AHCI controllers in device manager. However the sata controller and the drives themselves in device manager dont give me the option anywhere to turn on NCQ.

I have the sinking feeling that i screwed up big time and that I won't get the full performance benefit of my drives without a reinstall.

Can anyone tell me what the impact of this situation is? Is it worth a reinstall and re-doing hours of setup....?

Have a search thru this forum or the general motherboard one - I vaguely recall reading something on here that on some boards when ACHI is enabled NCQ is automatically on and there isn't an option to disable (and therefore by definition enable) it.

Copy the necessary driver to a floppy, boot with the window cd and install on top of your existing copy. press F6 and install the drivers from the floppy. You may also have to go into BIOS and set the controller to AHCI first.
