In the process of building new system. Don't have motherboard yet. I plugged in my new Seasonic S12 380w and wanted to test it out as well as the 120mm fans. I connected the molex power connectors to the CD-ROM, the 120mm fan and the Sata HD. I shorted the green and black and it powered up. All except for my Sata hard drive. I could not hear it spin up. I tried the legacy power connector and then the Sata power connector (not at the same time of course). I hope that doesn't mean I have a problem. I guess I'll know for sure if there is a problem when I get my mobo but wanted to get some insight here in the mean time.

Well it is a 1 year old Hitachi Deskstar 250gb. It is touted as one of the quietest but I'm pretty sure it didn't spin up. The drive came out of my old system working pefectly and has been gently stored for 2 weeks. I just don't think the PSU was giving it power. Not sure why. Maybe the components weren't drawing enough power or something.
