sorry to post another upgrade post but i am so there!

my current set up is a amd 3000+ on a cheap foxcon board oced to 1995mhz (with water) i cant oc it more due the mobo and i want to go duel core and faster! i have looked around a bit and i think seeing as i am going to need to change my mobo and cpu staying with 939 might be short sighted a swich to 775 seems the logical step and seeing as i am poor at the moment i was thinking

ASUS P5B DLX £129.07 inc VAT
Pentium D 805 Dual Core 64 bit £66.97 inc VAT
Corsair XMS2-6400 1024MB 5-5-5-12 £115.08 inc VAT

or

Corsair 1GB (2 x 512MB) DDR2 667MHz 2x64Mx64 non-ECC £89.72 inc VAT

if i can get away with it i will oc the system but the ddr2 timings seem very high. and i am unsure how much the diferent sticks would effect the performance and upgradibility ect.

i am thinking that i can then upgrade this to a core 2 due when my bank is happy!

I agree, if you are switching to an LGA775 platform, why not go with an e6300 or so... ? Pentium Ds aren't very good CPUs. I say, AM2 x2 3800+ or e6300 FTW

Either would be fine for RAM. I would suggest one stick though, this will make it easier to upgrade to 2GB later on. I still stand by my original post, I would not buy an 805D right now. You could get a much more efficient x2 3800 for about the same price that it is going to cost you to cool that overclocked sucky 805.

Please, don't get an Pentium D, let them die....
