Hi everyone,

I'm in the process of building a new system and have a question installing the C2D E6300 in my gigabyte 965p-S3 motherboard. It appears that the holding plate for the processor is slightly bent up in the front causing it to bow downward in the middle. This requires me to put alot of force on the lever to engage it. I don't want to damage the board and/or processor by doing this. Has anybody else noticed this or should I return the board for another one?

Thanks

If it puts unnecessary strain on the processor, you should probably replace the board. A replaced board is far better than a crushed processor :p

Try to compare your socket with a detailed pic of the board from the manufacturers webpage. I noticed that the LGA775 socket is generally hard to push the lever down. It seems like too much force to me too, but I have done it on many many different boards now and they are all about the same.

thanks for the replies.......it seems like I have to put a good deal of force on the lever to lock it even without the CPU in the socket. I'm not sure if I should just try and crank it down or not. That plate is pretty rigid and doesn't seem to want to flex at all.

You might want to call or email Gigabyte and ask them. I don't recall if it is hard to push the lever down when no CPU is in the socket or not. Only board I have here at school is an older 478 with a P4 2.8 in it.
