I have a p4 3 ghz (478), aiw 9800 pro, 2.5 gigs ddr etc. I want to upgrade to a AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+, asus a8n32-sli and Radeon x1950 xtx. obviously this is a hugh upgrade but should i wait till directx 10 vid cards come out? I went with the a8n32-sli b/c of reviews, its asus and b/c of support for ddr (I don't want to replace the memory just yet).

Thanks,
Jon

Read THIS THREAD. (Read all of it. It is not too long.)

It discusses the upgrade you want and the alternative. Post here again if you wish to discuss the matter further.

EDIT: Basically, the thread discusses whether it is better to upgrade from an AGP to PCI-E system now and then upgrade it again with a DX10 card or to stay with AGP and upgrade only once in a year or so.

I would say upgrade now, but definetly to AM2, s939 is a dead end for upgrading if youve gotten an X2.
You can get a X1900XT 256mb (wich is less than half the cost and can reach a X1900XTX speeds) and upgrade to a DX10 card when games are actually made for it. These would be around Q1 08 if were following the same path as with DX9, game developers wont put tons on effort on something just a few elite players affording the bleeding edge will buy.

If you decide on building, post a thread in the Homebuilt forums. Ill be happy to help get to most for your bucks =]
