i just picked up GTR 2 and my rig runs it horibly in low so i have made the leap into a new set up

i looked at the recent cards for gamers under 200 and decided to go with the x1900 GT and its Crossfire Enabled ... my question is since its a 256 mb card is there anohter way to run crossfire with out having to buy the crossfire edition 512MB one thats like 350+$$$

thanks

i think that if you have one of the newer motherboads with the xfire 3200 chipset, that you can use any 2 cards of the same kind in CF.

But I am not 100% sure :)

May I ask what CPU you are using?

I noticed on my P4 640, that GTR2 demo was killing me, dry/wet/wet+night. And I safely concluded that CPU power was the biggest issue, IF one has a decent Gcard already.

So, with my switch to Core 2, I noticed that FPS was consistantly above 40FPS, everything in game maxed out along with 4xAA and 8xAF at 1280x1024. Please note though, that wet scenarios and night racing will kill most PC's.

If you're CPU is lacking, I'd rather suggest a move to dual core - GTR 2 is after all largely based on physics, so CPU calc plays a large role.

Mind you, which country are you from? The South African release of GTR2 has been moved every friday for the last 4 weeks - which just really gets my nickers in a twist. PM me with some sort of insight into GTRvsGTR2 plz...

So long as u have an intel 975x based chipset or an ATI express 3200 or 1600 crossfire based chipset u can run 2 x1900 gt's in crossfire.Without need for the master card or crossfire dongle.
Dongleless crossfire will work for all cards below and including the x1900 gt.

Got my copy of GTR 2. Runs very fast, with a Core 2 Duo E6600, 2gig DDR2, 975xbx, X1900XTX. Very pleased I am indeed.

Settings in game are all full/High, while visible cars are at 16. Only slow down comes along pit section, but only momentarily. I'm using level 2 AA, and AFx4 - don't use AAA, the fencing on the game just pulls the fps down along with data collection of motec (much more important than fencing getting AA). HQAF also off.

In dry race, FPS is locked at 85 with vsync, running 1280x1024 - few occasions where the fps will drop like replay, or a turn leading into high density graphics collection (culling). Wet weather is always a problem during pull away, 28-33fps. Once pull away is done, fps goes to 45-55fps.

DAMN fine game!
