My budget is about $325.00. I plan to play BF2 and CSS. My thoughts lead me to the XFX (Fanless) 7950 GT so I can SLI later and I just bought the 25 cm fan for the side of my case. Cleave says X1900XT; will this work in my Mobo? I wish the 7900 GTX would come down in price. I can't wait for DX10.

Thank you in advance.

I agree with Cleeve. The Sapphir X1900XT is the best bang for the buck for upper end cards. The only other card I recommend is the BFG 7600GT which is 120 after MIR but this is for those on a budget.

Save your money for a DX10 card and get the X1900XT.

Thanks, but there is no way one 7600 can compare to the 7950 GT. Should I really go to ATI? I have an SLI Mobo. It will be some time until I buy another. How would two 7600 GT's compare to one X1900XT?

Your choice:
A) XFX 7950 GT
B) X1900GT
C) 7600GT in SLI
D) Hope for the price of the 7900GTX to drop in a week.
E) Force my AGP card in. 8O

X1900 GT, best card for $200. Unless you have a monster monitor it will run ut2007 just fine. Plus it will give you extra cash for a physics card.

Check it out:

The 7950GT is a pretty good card. Its about as fast as the 256MB version of the x1900xt. It is however slower then the 512MB version. There should be no problems getting an ATI card to work on an NF motherboard. A PCIe slot is a PCIe slot.

This would be the fastest card.

Its about $350, and the 7950GT can only get close. If all you care about is pure speed, this is the card to get.

If $325 is the limit, this is the next "fastest."

For a mere $257, you get a lot of gaming goodness. (the price does drop to $242 once that rebate comes in.)

Now we get to Nvidia.

This is the cheapest 7950GT 512mb card I found. $297 before rebate, $282 after. Considering that this card trades blows with the x1900xt 256MB card, I find it hard to spend the extra $50 on this card.

Lastly, you talked about SLI. First, two 7600GTs in SLI isn't going to get close to an x1900xt or a 7950GT. Second, the cost of running two 7950GTs in SLI would be almost $600. If your looking to spend that much, you should consider the 7950GX2. (not to mention its completely out of your price range. SLI/CF isn't all its cracked up to be, don't worry to much if you never use it.

Alright, I'll migrate over to ATI and get the X1900XT and pray to God that it will run in my Mobo. My first part was my 680W power supply and I bought it in March 06. This is my final purchase. Hopefully Friday the price will come down so I can get the 512mb card.

Thanks :!:

I never said that a 7600 can compare to a 7950GT. I just said if someone was on a budget, that the 7600 for $120 is the way to go.

Don't waste the extra 100 on a X1900XT 512MB. The price/performance over the 256MB version isn't worth it.

7900GTO? its a underclocked (memory) GTX, but the chips are the same. Only issue is I doubt you'd be able to get another one to SLI with in 6 months, actually more like 3 months. But unless you are at silly res then there is little point in SLI really.

Please note that SLI = nVidia, and Crossfire = ATI. Your mobo can run any single card, but for a pair of them they will be either SLI OR Crossfire, whichever the mobo supports. If it is SLI, then you must choose nVidia.

Since your budget is $325, Zipzoomfly has the X1900XT 512MB for $329.99. Based on this price, I am changing my position from my earlier statement.

Edit: Newegg actually has the X1900XT 512MB for $326.12 now.

If you have the money then go with the X1900XT 512MB, otherwise, the X1900XT still can't be beat on price/performance. Here's a little analysis I did using benchmarks from Anandtech.

Edit: Clean-up and corrections to my ealier price/perf chart.

1.) I would go for a 7900 GT. This is below your budget but you can save some extra cash for a DX10 card. the 7900GT will serve you very well.

2.) If you don't want to do that and you want to spend all of your budget now, the X1900XT is the clear choice, in my opinion, the 7950 is also a good call, but I like the ATI better

3.) Don't even think of getting a physics card.

Can you include the 7900GTO?, not sure of the US pricing but it is a GTX effectively. (ram is underclocked, but is fine to OC)

Don't plan your current graphics card purchase around the future possibility of SLI. Either get SLI all at once, or use the money you would spend on the second card later on a new, next-gen card. I bought a 7800gt with the intention of SLI, and by the time I got the cash, I felt silly buying such an out-of-date card (not to mention that I couldn't find one). I agree with everyone who suggests getting something to get you by and then buying a new, different card when the DX10 cards arrive.

Good points, Thanks for the list. The GTO looks to be a real sweet spot now. I wish there was more info on the GTO, but this looks like the answer to my wishing the GTX price to come down. I am liking that card and and it will leave some extra cash for another Hard drive. Phyics card is now out of the question. The X1900XT still has me undecided. This Thursday I'll be buying it.

Thanks,
