I have a general question about SLI. I have a evga 7800GT P/n 256-p2-n517-ax. My quesiton is can I get a 7800gt 256-P2-N516-RX and sil them together? I realize the cards have a little different speeds. Woudl that cause any stability problem or about the same card and will work.

Or would it just be better to get the 7900GTO?

I prefer the two 7800GT's in SLI. That's with a 20.1" Viewsonic DVI widescreen at 1680 x 1050. With non widescreen resolutions up to 1280 x 1024 the 7900GT would be the better setup IMO. I don't have a 7900GT, but I have an x1800xt and I prefer the two 7800GTs.

You can use the two EVGA 7800GT's you refered to in SLI configuration.

Well, you can mix up brands and clock speeds with SLI now, so it shouldn't be an issue.

Actually I just purchased the 7900GTO. I guess i'll be a pioneer for this new card but the specs looks awesome and should be compeditive to the X1900GT and it's like $270 :D. Check it out.

On the evga site it say Minimum 550 Watt for SLI mode system.
(Minimum recommended power supply with +12 Volt current rating of 34 Amp Amps)

I have a enermax liberty 500W ps with +12V 22amp per rail. Would SLI work if it requires 34A. 22A X 2 =44A but I know it doesn't add up that way and my current PS may be enough?

Thanks for all your help everyone.

Take the max power across the +12v rails and devide that by 12 to get the actual total current for the +12v rails.

384w/12=32amps Duh! Just short.

I should of purchased SAPPHIRE 100168L Radeon X1900XT for $260 since i can't run SLI anyways :? Oh well, i really don't know which is faster. I wish someone would run some test with the 7900gto.

The 7900GTO still comes with a 650MHz core and the same 1.1ns DDR3 the 7900GTX has; overclocking the memory to reference 7900GTX's shouldn't be at all difficult.
