I heard from alot of people that I should buy a new computer next year instead of now because of all the upgrades going on and AMD buying out ATI etc and I should wait... But computers are always upgrading so when should I get my computer.. I usually get a computer once every 6-7 years so this has got to last for a while.. Thanks!

If you get a new computer every 6-7 years then you should buy something that will not get antiquated too fast. What is your budget and what are you using your comp. for (gaming, multi-tasking, school) Answer this then people can start helping you

nice one/metaphor, true as well, however if you wait until tommorow you have to wait until the day after and so on...

if you need it get it now, core 2 duo is out, it brings a whole new lot of performance to the table, prices are low (AMD and intel), basically if you need it get it, if not wait. :D

And it's possible by the time RAM prices come down, you'll have to deal with the decision whether to wait a little longer for Vista and DX10 cards to come out

Well, no matter what technology keeps on moving foward and so do prices. Damn cant they just slow down a wee bit??? I mean they are working on 80 cores procecesors for christ sake!!!

If you wait for the next best thing, you'll find yourself waiting forever. There's always something better just over the horizon.

get something like this, im trying to keep costs down a bit because i know nothing about cad$ and how it compares to pounds/ dollars:

a core 2 duo e6400 (and overclock if you want)

1gb ddr2 corsair value select (or wait until ram prices drop and get better ram)

gigabyte 965p-ds3 motherboard (good, cheap and overclockable motherboard)

OCZ modstream 400w odd PSU (it should do, due to budget and is a pretty reliable PSU)

gigabyte 7600gt silent pipe 2 or ati x1800gt (not sure about prices)

seagate sata 7200.10 250gb HDD

and that should be about it and it seems pretty good, if you want to upgrade to kentsfield quad core (the cheaper one that will come out next year) then all you should have to do is flash the bios and itll be quad core ready! .. hopefully.... GL :D

but the ds3 has the option to go to a 500FSB if needed in the future (eg if it sems to slow) anyway i havent heard any reviews of the s3 only the ds3, therefore i am unfamiliar to that board and i shouldnt recomend it if i know nothing of it :)

I used one to get a E6300 to 412FSB in one reboot :-D

Then, I clocked it to 429FSB for some 3GHz ownage.

Both prime stable at stock Vcore... or even lower (Whatever the lowest voltage RMclock lets you set)

nice :D

i still think he should get the ds3 though but i guess we'll leave the choice up to the one who is purchasing the components :D.
