Hi, I have a D-Link DI524 with a Desktop connected to a LAN port and a laptop connected WLAN. My internet interface is through a SBC DSL modem, and I don’t have any problems getting on-line. BUT!!! I would like to print-share the printer on the Desktop with the laptop. I understand that it can be done, but haven’t had any luck. I’m running XP/SP2 on both and (I think) set-up network sharing on both computers, but I can’t see the other computer on either My Network Places :? .
I suspect I need to configure the Router to allow this?
Thanks for any advice.
If you are running a firewall on either of the computers try disabling it. Another way to get to another computer is to go to start>run and type \computername
That will show all the shares avaliable on that computer including printers.
If you get a denied message when trying to get to the other computer make sure your account is the exact same on both computers, same user/pass (must have a pass).
If the printer doesn't show up make sure that you shared the printer. Go to printers in the control panel, right click on your printer, and choose sharing.
There is nothing within the router itself to set up the network. I have done tech support for D-Link. Generally if you can get online, you should be able to see both computers. Try going to www.wown.com. They have tons of stuff about print sharing with Windows.
