I know that this topic does not fit neatly into any forums.
I tried to install ipod linux on my ipod but screwed up pretty bad, I forgot to add 2 critical startup programs.
Now my ipod just shows a blue screen with a bunch of white words running around.
I tried everything-ipod update, and the computer doesn't recognize my ipod anymore. I tried to call apple support but the put me on hold forever, and I dont expect anyone to answer my call.
If you have any solutions pleez reply.
PS: Reset doesn't work either, it just gives me the same blue screen
Wow. An iPod user that wants to run Linux. Two bad things that go worse together!!!
Sorry, I just stopped laughing.
Here are your options:
(1) Shell out another bunch of money for an inferior iPod
(2) Shell out substantially less money for a GOOD player, such as a Sandisk Sansa
(3) Wait for the Microsoft Zune and shell out money for that
What you have now is called "deadPod". Apple might fix it, altho the cost will most likely be more than the iPod is worth.
Next time, just let the mp3 player do what it does. You know, play mp3s.
Find a suitable container plastic or metal it doesn’t matter the correct type will have the word trash printed on it, place ipod in said container then walk, run, drive or cycle to the nearest Audio supplier and purchase a proper Mp3/4 that doesn’t have an Apple logo on it. Job done problem solved.
You're really in the wrong place. You should be in consumer electronics, seeing as you are here though, what generation iPod do you have, G5 for Windows I presume?
The reissued firmware for the Gen5 can be found here The windows file is located here
The Ninja has it right, The others... well... It never ceases to amaze me what big jerks people can make of themselves on forums when simply asked for a bit of help.
He's the one who likes mac and posting in a PC forum...IPods sucks, live with it. Like mousemonkey said, in the trash is where they belong, working or not.
All manner of fools reside here now. You are one of them. You have an obvious bias against iPods. I've got nothing against that. If the guy is asking what MP3 player to buy you recommend to him not to buy an iPod.
But when someone is asking for help on a topic, especially with expensive electronics, you don't spam the topic wtih stupid posts. No, you provide help.
If you can't help someone, go elsewhere.

WHOHOOO!! I GOT 11 posts!! YEAH!!! time for you to shut up. I am helping him, I am telling him to get rid of his IPod. IMO there are better MP3 players, and I am not the only one who thinks that.
Okay troll, seeing as you're new here, I'm going to go easy on you.
Leave.
Now.
Before I feel like reporting you.
Then you can be banned for 24hrs.
You haven't had anything productive to add to the discussion besides "urr screwed" and "iPod sux". The OP wanted to know what he could do to fix with his iPod. Nothing else.
Is the iPod a rip? Hell yes. Are there better and cheaper products out there? Definitely. Did he ask for that? No.
You seem not to see that when someone is asking for help on what to buy, then you give your opinion on what to do. Not now.
I may seem like I'm pontificating here, but in this case is it necessary. Take your 12 posts, and shove it up your ass.
ANYWAY,
You definately should just suck it up and wait on hold for tech support because very few people here are non-fanboi's enough to help you. I personally have no idea so I'm sorry about that. :-) But my best advice is to try and get through to tech support. I thought Apple was supposed to be known for its tech support, but maybe that's not true anymore. See how much they'd want to re-flash it or if they have any techniques. Seems like you'd need special hardware to talk to the Ipod to get it straightened out...or a new chip. Well...see how much they want, and if its unreasonable, consider getting a Sansa. I wish I had gotten one and saved myself some money (then again I got my Ipod like 2 yrs ago)
Well, now I know where those 741 posts of yours came from...your point is made, but this is still the General Discussions section, I think anything can be said if someone has an opinion. True, his are rather unproductive, but one or two comments isn't the end of the world.
'tard is another way of saying "retard" - it has an apostrophe at the front because it's an abbreviation.
Abbreviations are also used in things like lol - which means "laughs out loud".
So, basically, you've criticised me for using an abbreviation, then used an abbreviation in the next sentence. Congratulations.
>time for you to shut up.
Nah, I don't think so.
>I am helping him
No, you're not.
>I am telling him to get rid of his IPod.
iPod, surely. You could at least learn to spell.
>IMO
This is the rub, isn't it. You think that because it's your opinion, it must be right. Well, lots of other people would disagree with you about that opinion. We're entitled to disagree. As the Ninja said, if you can't help someone, go elsewhere. You want to rant about iPods, do it in the proper place.
Thank you for having a brain. Its getting to be few and far between.
Apple should provide a link similar to the one I provided above that allows you to flash the iPod for free.
Just for everyone, the iPod already has Linux. Its just that it runs Apples proprietary version of it. I believe that uploading your own version doesnt violate the EULA.
Ja Ne,
DaSick
"Sadly for you, your spelling and grammar also suck" - and yours is better? lol
notice the hyphen, I am commenting on your inability to properly use the word "suck" as well nothing else, same as you were doing. but big freaking deal.
So, basically, you've criticised me for using an abbreviation, then used an abbreviation in the next sentence. Congratulations.
-No, I was not.

- It is my opinion, isn't that was I said "IMO"? right or wrong it doesn't change anything about what I said.
