OC problem with e6600 and asus p5n se 32 deluxe

hi i built a pc recently and i planned to overclock, the asus board has alot of overclocking features overclock 5% 10% etc. manual overclocking, auto overclocking etc. but whenever i try to overclock anything by any amount even 1% it fails, just reads overclocking failed and it restores to default settings, any1 had this problem? any reason for it or solve for it. i didnt update the bios on anything either. pc spec is:

intel core 2 duo 2.4ghz
asus p5n se 32 deluxe
1gb kingston value ram 533mhz
BFG 7900gt 256 mb
2x 250gb maxtor hdd's

First of all, I hope you don't expect to get large overclocks with that motherboard, because it's not a good overclocking mb. That being said, you CAN overclock a little bit, but DO NOT use the AInos, AIBoost, or anything like that. You can only proceed via manual settings. Follow the overclock guide in this forum by wusy. It will allow you to get the most out of your setup, but don't expect too much
