First off, I do not use RAID (not yet, anyway!) But still, I wanted to get everything I could out of my Seagate SATA2 3.0 Hard drive, so I went with the Gigabyte SATA2 chip as a controller so as to use AHCI/NCQ.
After the build, I was getting a speed of 222 from HDTach under XP Pro. However, I could not get Vista to load properly. I finally just simply, unplugged the boot disk from the Gigabyte to the Intel ICH8 Southbridge. Everything worked fine INCLUDING installing/running Vista. The bonus is that my hard disk scores went UP to 254!!
Like I said, FWIW!
