My current rig:

AMD Athlon 64 3700+
Kingston 2x512 MB DDR
Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 80GB
XFX Geforce 7600GS EXTREME XXX
SFF Aopen case and motherboard
Samaung 15" LCD (5 years old)

I've got ~$1000 (And many other things  )
I have planned two scenarios for my PC upgrade:

1- Upgrade to:

C2D E6600
2x512 MB DDR2 PC6400
250GB SATA 7400 16MB
SLI Geforce 7600GS with the old one (Until DX10 mainstream Cards arrives )
New C2D SLI motherboard and case
Windows XP Home

The other upgrades will follow later (Much later)

2- Wait and collect another $1000 (May take upto 6 months :( ) and switch to Same as option 1 except:

2x1024 MB DDR2 PC6400
74 GB Raptor (Don't comment, I just want it) + the 250GB
DX10 mainstream Card (I would like an Nvidia :) )
Acer 19" LCD
Windows Vista
Better case and motherboard (will be available at the time)

What do you think ??!

Notes:
- I want to overclock it to 3.0GHZ.
- I do alot of browsing and some strategy gaming (Company of Heros at the moment)
- I like quite PCs
- I will use the current LG DVD-RW DL drive

NOOOOOOOOOO, is what I think.

SLI with a 7600GS is horrible I say horrible!

It is not worth your money. But a non-SLI board and take the money you saved + what you would of paid for the GS and invest in a 1900XT. ATI smacks nVidia around (sorry nVidia fans) and the 1900XT 256 is an amazing value at right around $200.

For the hard drive make sure its a Segate 7200.10 drive, best 7.2k RPM drive on the market right now.

Look at XP Pro- wayway better than Home. Or just save money on the OS and run Vista RC1.
