Epson 3200 Stripes Problem

I am using an Epson Perfection 3200 Photo scanner. All of a sudden,
when using the scanner, both in preview and scan mode, there are
darkened vertical stripes showing on the screen and on the final scanned
photos. The first darkened stripe is about 1 inch wide and is located
about an inch from the left side. The second strip is about 1 and a
half inch in width, and is located to the right of the first one with a
quarter inch space inbetween the first and second stripe.

I found the same stripes present using both the Epson Scan software and
Vuescan.

Any ideas what caused this?
