Xbox music app and mail app

i have recently upgraded to win 8 64bit and the xbox music app keeps starting when i use my keyboards play button to try use windows media player, how do i disable that app?
also my mail app opens then freezes at the screen with a shade of blue fading to white over 3 panels and wont open, how do i fix this?

have you tried updating the apps from the store? I know they've been constantly updating the stock apps for bug fixes and better compatibility.
