rumors...

the 8800gtx only requires a 450w psu which isn't huge at all. There was a post yesterday with an article stating the power draw

PS.- there is no way to really tell until it actually comes out.

yeah i never got that. why would a single only need 450w for the entire build. but adding sli bumps it up to nearly 800w. somethings gotta be a mistake.

Yes, thats true, they say 450W, which isin't too bad. BUT they say for SLI, 800W is recommended, which is prison rape levels.

800W-450W = 350W... what is wrong with this picture?

Shrug, I'm not believing anything till I see hard proof.

Well they might leave some space for the rest of your system, and that the 350W is what the card really needs. But then ... im just guessing

maybe its 450 for all the hardware including the vid card, and the extra 350 is to power the other card alone. But it would mean 100W to power c modern computer.........which is completely wrong. It's either I suck at math or they do.

well i think they might be taking into consideratin that anyone who goes with an SLi setup of two 8800GTXs will also have other high end components with probably an average of more than 2 harddrives and such so maybe they just overestimated, (a lot i guess) and they probably say that much to guarentee they're will be enough amps on the 12v rails,

either way they will always play it on the safe side cause they don't want anyone complaining that there 650W psu couldn't handle the 8800GTXs in Sli when they nvidia recommended a 650W, they just say 800W so that won't happen to anyone and they arent liable

Idiot computer user 1 - Whoa, have you seen the specs for the 8800GTX?

Idiot computer user 2 - Yeah, they say it needs over 800w for SLi

Idiot computer user 1 - Wow, it must be really good then

There's your reason, a mon avis.[/quote]

that would make a lot more sense. im just hoping my investment in an antec true power 480 won't be a waste if i need to power a dx10 card in the future.

since you have an antec true power i'm sure you will be fine as for the requirements for nvidia dx10 cards, although be sure not to be confused that it is not always wattage requirements but more so based on the required amperage, since the antec truepower is a very quality psu i would not worry in your case cause im sure it delivers about 30 or so amps on the 12v rails while a non name brand might not,

with a 480W psu i would expect you to be fine for nvidias set of graphics cards but you may be border line for ATi's upcoming r600 which if rumors prove true will be the biggest gpu built to date with some power requirements well above what they are now,

in truth im not surprised by this as this was the trend for ATi's x1900 series, they fed it power, it ran super hot and it performed well while nvidias power requirements were slightly lower, so expect this trend to stay the same and ATis power requirements to be a little higher than nv's

i really can't wait for its release. im running on a 6500gs. i.e. it can barely run fear. how would one figure out how many amps it delivers. i just checked on newegg and it says the dual +12volt rails are at 18amps. do you add the 18 together?
