My little analysis tells me the X1900GT is the card to get.

Not only is it cheaper, it's average score is better then the 7900GT. But this is only an average from one site. Use this with what Pauldh said to make a final decision for what's good for you.

The 256MB 1900GT is probably ever so slightly better on a performance/price ratio.

However, I recently (within last 30 days) bought the 7900GT because it could be had for $219 after rebate. The reference board for the 7900GT is at a core clock of 450MHz; my purchase was from factory at 470MHz, and then I further overclocked it to 562MHz (with 1604 MHz on memory). And I overclocked the "dummy's manner" by simply having Coolbits suggest a clock speed -- and went straight to it. It suggested 562 MHz, and this gives me about 20% better performance than the factory-arrived performance.

Forum member GeneticWeapon got a 400MHz overclock on his X1900GT's memory. If you're overclocking, the X1900GT is probably better, but if you're not, I'd get a factory-overclocked 7900GT or an X1900XT 256MB.

EDIT: Disregard everything that I said, and get THIS. $175 for an X1900GT is unbeatable price/performance.

In some games the 1900gt outperforms the 7900gt,but in others the 7900 beats the 1900gt.I do believe that over all,the 1900 is slightly better, but neither you nor I would ever actually see the difference.anyways,as far as price/performance goes, the 1900 is your best buy.Or at least it was.Goodluck.

What makes the X1900GT a winner over the 7900 series is it's image quality, not the fps it gets in benchmark scores(though it's good). It's something that people just have to see for themselves to understand.

I really love this card, especially since I'm playing Oblivion again with HDR + antialiasing combined. It's damn purty.
