I have tried enabling max CPUID value limit, but that didn't help. I can't run any kind of DOS on my new system. As a result, I can't clone a hard drive with either Acronis or Norton Ghost 2003. Partition Magic can't drop to DOS to apply changes on drives. I can't boot off a floppy or CD that is DOS-based. Any time I try to use a program that has to drop to DOS, the system hangs.
I've also tried booting from DOS-based floppies and CDs. The system always hangs.
Some help here? Obviously it's a hardware or BIOS setting issue.
Thanks in advance.
System:
Windows XP Pro SP2
ASUS PW5 DH Deluxe (using only PATA)
Intel Core 2 Duo (E6600)
Sapphire Radeon X1900XT
2 X 1 GB DDR2-533 RAM
You have to disable the second core in your BIOS. There should be an option for that under Advanced Options or something like that. DOS can only run on a single core - as is the case with all MS OSes up to the 9x kernel.
you could have picked an easier task .
this is odd.
try one stick of ram and if you are slaving off the cd/dvd drive disable the cd/dvd and unplug the power to the drive.
if you have acsess to a windows 98 or Me start up disk see if you can boot from that thus eliminating hardware or software errors.
if overclocked raise Vcore or set defaults in bios and reboot on the startup disk.
