So I was just wondering what kind of people are around... select an option from the poll and leave a post!
Thanks for the flashback to my master's thesis.
That is the most comprehensive poll list that I've ever seen here on the boards.
- insert clever comment here -
you forgot:
1. I am a cyborg
2. Transfered my mind to the internet as miscellaneous background noise
3. Started my own collective
4. Made a USB power glove and wrote my own drivers for it
**Yawn**
You're from Texas... Do they even have computers there yet??
I'm technicaly proficent enough to get hired here. I'm not good enough so that they let me overclock anything but pork products yet, or test any hardware with anything but my forehead.
So you let people swing their "rugged laptops" into your forehead? Ya, you score a low low number.
I know how to build a PC. I win., Though I have never got one to turn on afterwards... thats TECH2's problem.
Yes but can you OC a sandwich??? I think not!!!
In another thread E2D managed to OC a bacon sandwich while I was trying to eat it...
So it went through your system at a faster speed?? I hate when food does that...
Well, it was my own fault. I wasn't paying attention to what was going on...
*Overclocks Shroud of Turin.*

I know how to take a sledgehammer to a case whenever it refuses to do my bidding. [/gifted]
I know how to roll a Compaq Proliant 6000 off of a roof....
oh shit, i actually have thrown a compaq off my 3rd story building before lol.
My previous rig fell 2m about a year back. The only damage was that 512MB RAM 'disappeared' - the DIMM was still there, but as far as the BIOS was concerned, 1024MB - 512MB slot 1, 0MB slot 2. Windows picked up 1GB, 512MB in slot 1, 0MB in slot 2.
Weird. 512MB of RAM became 'ghost' RAM - the oddest was that the damaged DIMM can not be removed from the motherboard, otherwise the motherboard refuses to start. Weird.
ASRock P4M800, for those who want to know.
mustve been your Saviour like powers.
I wouldn't know.
[/+3 omniscient bonus]
how does that pole reflect the kind of people you or we have around here.
Computer skills in no way reflects the insane twisted sense of humor I find archives within these hypothetical pages. I only wish I had the warped (creative) mind set to come up with these seemingly random responses. Or at least had the ability to participate.
I am fairly competent with computer systems. I actually built one from a bunch of special order parts that all said they would work together and turn on. This was done after hours of reading through this form just to find out what an lg775 was and what worked with it. However, the machine did/does turn on and does currently work. So I must have some minor skills. Or simply the ability to read, which many of the current viewers of this thread and or forum do not.
Someone, more skilled then i needs to come up with a poll to test the visitors ability to follow simple advice and to withstand this wonderful societies ridicule and or love.
Then you and or we may have some idea of those around us.
*ow. my head. [/head cold]*
Anyway. Er, I learned most of my PC stuff from hanging around in a PC shop and bothering some techies a number of years back (as a 14-year-old neophyte) and followed up with a number of heavy going electronic engineering courses (for the B.Eng. (Ind)) and an A+ (for the fun of it).
The twisted sense of humour I think is something one is born with.
wait youre an industrial engie?
Yep.
I knew things were going to go weird with that, when all my work accounts started to have "bacon" in their name.

Please don't...just get the **** outta here!

I'll tell you how fockin' technically adept I am. I've spent 2 hours trying to work out these new boards and still don't have a fockin' clue.
"Useless" doesn't do me justice.
Talk about TTL chips. I stuck a 4M EPROM into a slot once, the wrong way around (GND had 5Vdc and 5Vdc had GND) and slotted the module it was located on back in. Turned out quite the heatspreader...
And then I'm not even gonna count the number of eprom pins I bent trying to get one of those fockers out. Being AMD based EPROM's from the 90's era, its not easily replaceable so I climbed the popularity stakes with my boss. I think we have 1 more spare left...
And programming the darn thing is such a pain - erase for 20min, program on a one slot programmer with like 20 chips needed to be programmed..
That's my useless mumblings for the day

You could try sobering up first, but that would kind of spoil it all, wouldn't it?
Sober on what was a Tuesday night? Never! lol
I only had 6 beers and a glass of red. Actually, they were a sixer of Hollandia. I enjoyed them. Nice drop.
Some of the EPROM chips - the ones that are UV erasable, popular for earlier PC BIOS chips... I've lost count of the idiots around here with P2/P3/early P4 systems, with the little window exposed, that have killed their BIOS with a UV CCFL.
Bomber - you're not alone. I'm still trying to work out how to get the email notifications back
| llama_man wrote : Bomber - you're not alone. I'm still trying to work out how to get the email notifications back |
You can set email notifications for PM's in your profile (Forum parameters section).
email notifications for threads are handled in the "my notifications" section. You can define keywords there that have to be present in a thread, and then you will be notified of those threads (either by email or PM).
Oh...well that simplifies it...
[#d4002a] now does ir work?
Now that I've got my avatar going, my sig's disappeared again.
Oh, wait, there it's back again...
Mac - just discovered that. I added [other] as a keyword - presumably this means I get notified of every new thread in The Other?

..*send condolences*..
Doesn't appear to be working.

Let me quote what is on the my notifications page:

Not every topic here has the word "other" in it, so no that doesn't work.
Did you notice this icon
on the right top side of every thread? That will allow you to subscribe on a per thread basis but this will not notify you of new threads (obviously).
The condolences or the notification?
We need that 'in reply to' thing back!
I was talking to Llamaman.
the answer is both... or 42. You choose.
And you are talking to...?
yes.
I resent that statement.
what statement?
Yes.
