Installing WIN7 On An External DVD-Reader

Can I install Windows 7 for the first time, on a new computer, using an External DVD-Drive through USB?
I have used 2600$ on this computer, and I think I can afford a DVD-Drive too, but i really dont need one, thats why an external one might be smarter.
Of course I will appreciate your opinion, and come with suggestions if you have any.

yes, just set the USB DVD drive as primary boot drive
