Right im no expert in... well... anything, lol. But would it not be possible to make a pretty heavy dute air-tight pc case (With cd/dvd drive mods) and vacuum the air out, how cool would it be (say if u use a hoover! lol!) and would it work at all? Remember that you wouldnt have fans doing any cooling... i've have a high idea that it wouldnt work lol but it would be a good answer to cooling.

If it wouldnt work give me the reasons :) I actually enjoy learning new things ;)... the ammount you can learn on the forum is outragous! lol.

Thanks

Wrong forum numbnuts. If you persist then you will be forced to don the llamasuit, be tethered up and wait for Wingding to come along and have his wicked way with you. Eye-watering in the extreme.

Now, without further ado...

Reply to Veryon

Why do we install fans in our PCs? To keep cool air going in and hot air going out.

The air is used to absorb heat from the heatsinks for dumping out the back of the case. If you remove the air, you remove the medium for heat transference, so you effectively remove any cooling you might have in the case.

Vacuum-packed PC... instant meltdown. You could use heatpipes to move the heat out to the outside of the case, but you're still using air to get the heat off the heatpipes. And a lot of components (i.e. southbridge, VRMs, PSU, hard drives, RAM etc) aren't going to get cooling without air. Watercooling also isn't the answer. [/serious]

ok mate, thanks for theinformative reply! I'm so sorry for posting in the wrong section, won't happen again ! :P lol

*sad face* for the hostility here lol, this isnt cs! lol

Reply to Bonse

The hostility is normal, it sort of wears off after a while.

But yeah, go up into Hardware for the technical stuff, come down here for the non-technical stuff and the fun.

Reply to mugz

Actually the guys went soft on you. Hostility is different. Try a Sypher topic if you want to experience hostility.

This is just the Other. Read the stickies and you'll understand. In principle it is good practice to read the stickies when you want to post on any forum for the first time, not just here. This is just a place where you get hands-on education when you do not follow the good practice.

I hope you'll stick around (as if you could leave in that cum filled Llama suit).

Reply to BigMac

hah i dont blame you lads for it, i'm the most abusive and hostile person you'll ever meet when i play cs, but cus im new here i have more respect than to shout back with the ammount of abuse i'm used too lol - so abuse me all you like ;) i do actually find it quite entertaining, as long as you do teach me things along the way lol :D Sorry again! ;) but at least my question WAS answered :)

Reply to Bonse

Your question was answered?? Who is the culprit? I need to report someone

Reply to BigMac

HAHA! Thou shalt never speak of ones name!

Reply to Bonse

Oh, that Jezus fellow again....I told him he wouldn't fit in but he was even more persistent than Sypher and in the end he blended in nicely, except for the occasional self sacrificing fuckup. He likes to repeat himself.

Reply to BigMac

It's spelled with an 'S', thank you.

Besides, self-sacrifice is what I'm about.

Non-sensical; uninteresting; and I'm not learning anything from your incompetence, which is saying something significant, what given my lack of adroitness when it comes to pcs.

Spelling is more or less optional in any case, provided the meaning is retained. [/unless you're a pedant, a llama, or both]

As for my presence here... *nonchalanty whistles while edging away*

I don't believe in Jebus either. Who is that, anyway?

Dig dig dig.....

If you were to vacuum all the air out of a case... you get SPACE. Space is like 0 degrees Kelvin so the computer would be VERY cold.

Next time, dont invent something without knowing how the process works. After taking college level thermal dynamics classes, come back and suggest your theory again.

And if you want to hook up a vacuum to something anyway.... Attach one end to you, and call out WINGDING. Then wait.

With a face like that, I'm guessing that you have plenty of other problems to deal with.

I believe he's reaching a boiling point. Observe how he tries to offload the pain by making sly comments related to the thread's subject. You know there is a problem instantly. Usually he avoids such matters by noodling noobs with mounting enthusiasm.

I suppose a nickname like Mrs. Hoover will do as a reminder until his temper bursts with the same flair as his scrotal pustules. That or gimp another deformed bunny pic.

Well,, having taken thermodynamics, as well as high vacuum in college, if I may: "space" has no temperature, Kelvin, Celcius or otherwise.

Pure vacuum is the absence of matter. The whole of "space" is not a pure vacuum, obviously, or the planets, stars, gaseous nebula, and what have you would not exist. In addition to those afore mentioned visibly recognizable objects, space also contains matter on the subatomic level, for instance electrons, Xrays gamma particles etc.

Temperature is the measure (in whatever scale you please) of energy. To be specific, it is the measure of heat, which is one of the two fundemental forms of energy. Energy can neither be created nor destroyed and can always be resolved into those 2 basic forms: potential, or stored energy, and kinetic or motion energy. With either form of energy, in order for that energy to exist, mass must exist.

Were a person to go to space, say well beyond Neptune (since our friggin "genius" global science community decided Pluto doesnt count as a planet anymore) into the deepest, darkest most remote location possible and pull out a 'thermometer', they would see a temp of about 3' Kelvin, not zero. This is due to the various radiations mentioned previously. That is, the kinetic energy of those particles impacting the thermometer would be converted to and stored as potential energy within the thermometer. If one were to go into orbit about earth, and place that same 'thermometer' in direct exposure to the sun, they would note a reading of about 280'K due to the suns photon/radiation emmisions. In either case, had they a gauge capable of registering it, they would read about 1.322 × 10-11 Pa of pressure as previously noted, space is not in fact a true vacuum.

That said, in order for heat(energy) transfer to occur, mass must exist...cant have energy or energy transfer without mass, and as such, in a true vacuum, since no mass occurs no heat transfer could occur, thus, no cooling would be possible, resulting in heat build up, i.e Mugz's "instant meltdown"

I appologize, my good NASA links seem to be down, so for the moment, I can only offer these kiddie links.

I did a brief thermo course while I was studying, it was compulsory to the degree I was doing. It has proven helpful on several occasions.
