Which Scanner: Canon LiDE80 or Epson Photo 3170

Afternoon, All.

After much deliberation, I am having difficulty assessing which of
these two machines is the superior scanner. Cost is not an issue here,
but I am looking for a machine that will make good colour copies of
photographs, and the occasional 35mm negative now and then!

I know that the Photo 2400 has a good reputation, and I would
therefore expect the Photo 3170 to follow suit.

But if the Canon offering, utilising the LED matrix, proves to be just
as good, then I guess I'd benefit from the reduced desk-space that it
requires!

Anyway, quality is paramount, so I would appreciate any constructive
comments that might help to steer me in one direction or the other.
