Trying to upgrade my cpu for OBLIVION.

amd +3700
DFI LP SLI-EXPERT
2x 1Gb Corsair ExPert
EVGA 7900gt
NEOHE 550psu

IS there anythig else I should Look at while upgrading my System?
Doesnt have to be a Fx model but I am limited to socket 939, and I have that Zalman windtunnel heatink, is ther anything better in price and performance thatn the fx-60? Try to keep it dual-core type and stick w/ AMD plz.

If i may recommend myself get your self a Amd64 4000+ Venice with 1mb cache i bought myself this cpu it FLYS like hell its very quick. my setup boots from COLD to windows (operational) in 39sec.

Now keep in mind thats a 2.4ghz 4000+ i paid this much and now you can get a fx55. Im depressed now lmao.
FX55 for less then 200$ its sad.

Yep, actually graphics card would be a better investment for this request.

Yes, there's definitely better out there. However, the 7900GT is still a nice card and unless it could be sold for anywhere near it's new price, it'd be a waste to buy anything else until DX10 cards come out.

Dont really know where u live. But u could get a Opteron 180 here in nothern europe for 333 USD last week.. Else u migh opt for a X2 4600+.. They cost around 300 USD. If you really wanna play higher resolutions i would concentrate on getting a better gpu istead. U can have 7900GTO for as little as 299-320 USD

Whatever jackass said VENICE had 1mb L2 is WRONG.

Your 7900gt is a great card, and your 3700+ is a fast enough CPU.
But for optimum performance purely in Oblivion based on your current specs, I'd get a X1900XT. But remember, no matter what you do, nothing will run Oblivion with everything maxed out.

Don't mess with the FX60; save your money and go for an X2 4800+. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E1681...

The 7900GT is a very good card, but like most cards it gets it a$$ handed to it in Oblivion which is where Bluntside's problem is. If he wants to play Oblivion with better quality, the 7900GT is the system's weak point. The rest of his system can handle the game.

Yes the NV DX10 cards are right around the corner, but DX10 is not. An X1900XT for ~$250 would be a good purchase right now. According to this, ATI's DX10 cards are due out around Q207 which is a more realistic date to start thinking about DX10. That info isn't confirmed so it could turn out to be BS, but I'm sure if it is we'll find out about it soon.

Once ATI and NV both have DX10 cards avilable you can eBay the X1900XT and then pickup a DX10 card because you'll have more cards to choose from and more info available to make a more informed decision.

a native 1600x1200, you think maybe I should go to SLI?
October 7, 2006 7:58:24 PM

Well chck it, I have A DFI LP SLI-Expert, now why would I want to get a ATI GFX card for my nvidia mobo? DO you think it will still kick ass in performance on oblivion and lots of other games as well? Cuz Im an ATI fan and This is my first card from nvidia the 7900gt. WHAT GFX card would you recommend?
October 7, 2006 8:04:55 PM

yes, if your running high rez like that in obliv then the gpu is your bottleneck not cpu... a 3700+ compared to a fx60 would make almost no dif at those rez... so you will need sli or crossfire... keep in mind that ati's cards do better in oblivion. good luck. oh yeah if u have an sli mobo then get another gt, if not its up to you... the ati route will be more $$ but it will proform better.

Just get another 7900GT card and run in SLI. You will be happy, it gives a nice performance boost. Look around I've seen some good prices.

If you want to run SLI, yeah get another 7900.
In my opinion I would rather run a single x1900XT though.
Much better AA and AF., and unless you game in very high res, the 1900 will STILL be faster than 2 SLI'd 7900's.
You will see more game improvment doing that than buying a faster processor. Do the graphics upgrade first.

Oh, and the chip doesn't make any difference, unless you go SLI.
A single ATI card will plug right in and run perfectly on your board.
