As I told you guys back pre-November.. this was a stock to watch.
Its currently the leading IPO of the past year at 240% increase in 3/4th a year.
Jim Cramer of Mad Money pointed this stock out on the 12th, the Feds are working to help out solar power companies.
Anyhow, I sold today pulling in a nice 37% profit on my money in 3 months. It will continue to go up though.. but when a stock I'm invested in starts making headlines and people are told to not short it, its my time to bail out on and take my profits.
I'd guess it will steady off around $84/share in the next 1-2 months. The catch to investing and making money is to know when to get out, not wait until it reaches the peak. Should it drop back down in the the low 60s, I'd buy again.
Anyhow, just wanted to point out previously that this stock was the leading solar power company in the market and money was to be made. I made mine.

If I had bought $1,000 of First Solar when I thought about it, I would have $3,600 8 months later.
That buys more beer.

I'm unfamiliar with US taxation law as it pertains to capital gains, and whilst I think it's tremendous that you made a "37%" profit on your money there, the "real" profit figure is the figure as it stands after tax. That is, in fact, one of the core principles my mate (who is a head financial planner for Wilson HTM) over here told me some time back. So, if that 37% is tax free, then that's bloody brilliant, mate!
If it's subject to tax yet though, could you have altered your strategy to maximise the capital gains realised, whilst also minimising the tax bill incurred? In particular, if you had held onto your investment for a longer period, would that have helped lessen the tax payable on your investment?
There's a host of other factors that affect the tax payable, I'm sure, and in this day and age of diminishing social welfare (age old pensions), it's vital to look after one's own savings for when one finally does retire.
At any rate, Rise, great work, mate. 37% in anybody's language is all good! 8)
It'll get taxed regardless. If I made $1000 over night or over the course of a year, its additional income and will get taxed at an income rate of 28%.
I'm checking into a couple other stocks at the moment that look promising as well. First Solar already closed $2 higher than what I sold for.
Interesting.
Over here it's different.
I'm not so sure, Rise, that you couldn't have avoided the tax on those gains you've realised from that stock. Are you very familiar with US taxation law as it pertains to investments?
Every year they'll send me a statement to show how much I made. Had I left it in there and not pulled out, I wouldn't be taxed on it.. until I sold the stock.
The stock was predicted to sit at a certain level, which it exceeded. I made my profits and got out. I know the company is doing extremely well and honestly, I should have pulled out 50% of the money and left the rest in there to see where it goes.
Though, I found a couple other stocks that are cheaper and on the rise where my money would make a bigger splash when it goes up.
The best part about Toledo is that we have a lot of companies around here that are picking up big time or have their hand in things around the country and world. Thus, when I see them doing certain things, I know how that can effect other companies around.
For example, a company called Dana which stock is slow had a big boost producing Chrysler powertrains. Stock jumped but with the news of Chrysler, it died down again.
Owens Corning.. a friend of mine bought it at $0.27/share when they went bankrupt with the esbesto a few years ago. They've since turned around and at last I heard was selling for roughly $35/share. He's made hundreds of thousands but he's keeping it in there for a while.
I don't have a tens of thousands in the stock to play with so the amount I'm making is better of moving it around and playing the short stocks instead of the long. My 401k last year returned 78% based on what I picked in the market. The stock market average was 17% I believe and others who had picked similar stocks as I returned ~30% or higher.
I'm looking for the easy money, don't mind paying the taxes on it as I can use that to my benefit with my income tax return.
Ok. Cool. Well, you did very well there, mate.
Good on you.
I hate taxes.
Unfortunately, I hate bad roads, improper education, and poor law enforcement more... wait a minute...
Discuss.
Or you could just say "I hate Michigan" and you would have summed it all up.
Why should I reserve extra hatred for places in the 'States I haven't been to? [/i.e. about 99.9% I'd guess]
I've only been to Seattle, thus far.
Seattle isn't a state.
Upon further review, I noticed the "in the" portion of your statement, so I'll allow it, Jebus.
My good sweet Lord.
Sometimes, you go too far.
+1 Hindsight
Thank you sir.

That's what the local magistrates always say to me
Hey, at least my pants stay on, and no one gets hurt.
Yet, they (being the forum members) still hate me and love you...
...*reminds Wingy about his wife's love of shopping and hatred of anal sex, has a good cry with Wingy*...
...*cops a sly feel*...
...*slips Wingy a tongue, not mine*...
mmmmm.....decayed......
...*flips another, much like a seal trainer*...
...*barks and claps hands in appreciation*...
Good boy!
...*tosses another severed tongue, makes note to carry around a bunch of them to keep by poop-chute in order*...
(EDIT: Meaning I can throw Wingy one when he comes looking for me)
But sooner or later I'd like to offer you my tongue in return...
...*flicks tongue suggestively*...
...*cuts off Wingy's tongue, will offer it later as a treat*...
....mmmmm....pain.....

That bi feminist bird that I was seeing in my first year of uni got off on me drunkenly licking her ears; it got her juices flowing, so to speak.
In those days, I drank liberal lashings of rum with coke or rum on the rocks so it was pure fire that I was breathing over her face.
These days, most if not all tarts would be appalled if I did that.
Men often misunderstand the myriad benefits associated with porking fems.
You give a little, you get a little.
With these post-modern consumerist types, you give a great deal and get sweet fock all in return: maybe you get to see her head bobbing whilst she gives you a blowy, all the while distracted by the light being refracted from the horrendously over-priced diamond earrings that you bought her to get the blowy in the first place.
Just ask Wingy the next time he meets with his bank manager how wonderful it is to be with a "modern" lady.
What's wrong with a good ear licking? My wife enjoys it, as would many other gals out there B.
Not that you need any reason, but go around the bar next time and ask all the Sheila's if they enjoy it, then offer a demo to them either way.
"You like it? Cool. Mind if I have a lick?"
"You don't like it? Crikey, it's the greatest thing since the ribbed condom! Let me show you!"
I'm going to make up a new acronym because of your post, Jef.
HFS,JIOHFHAOC!
It is:
Holy Focking Shitebombs, Jeff Is Off His Focking Head Again On Crystal!
Digs, I love your work!
I'll take your focking suggestion up there, mate. I dig it.
Honestly, it's time for a return to old school sex, I reckon. It shouldn't just be in pornos that people actually have a good time screwing.
Ribbed condoms are overpriced, I use standard and throw in a handful of dried peas.
LOL... I'm surprised you use them at all... Figured it'd be her place to not get preggo.
@ Bomber - Thanks, I think...

Real men ride bare-backed, Gov. 8)
Except, with those Portugese tarts that you have a taste for, I'm somewhat gladdened to note that you put a skin on. [/graceless]
Don't be silly. Wrap you willy!
The peas have the added advantage of getting rid of them if it turns out to be a crap shag. One mention of genital warts wearing one of those fcukers and you'll never see a bird leave so fast.

You'll have to forgive me, mate. Tuesday night, midnight, and I've been drinking, of all thingsm, contreau and butterscotch snaps.
Jesus focking christ. Work tomorrow and all the rest and I'm up bored drinking odd ball liquor.
Drinking like that you might as well be on rock bottom.
He's already been there, and he's on the way back up.
Rock on, Bomber. Power to your pecker.
Chief, rock focking bottom is Friday night in Toledo, Ohio. Ha-the-Fock-ha!

I fell into bed at 2am last night and didn't get to click on it. Now at work and can't click on it.
Thanks for the effort, mate.
Ok, if Jef is somewhat disturbed by it then I most certainly would be too.
Polish your pecker and crack open a cold one in anticipation, my friend
You can quote me on this...
The solar industry is the next "Dot coms".
They are going to be huge and people are going to throw a lot of money at them then one day they will crash HARD...
Make your money now and get out...
I understand your sentiments in this regard, LV, but I don't believe renewable energy companies -- solar in particular -- will be quite like the dotcom bust.
Sure, the basic business principles for each company will have to be economically viable, but unlike the dotcom bust, renewable energy companies -- and again, solar in particular -- have been around for decades now, mate.
Some will go bust, but there'll be many who'll make good money, I believe.
I only have to look to the Chinese-Australian who's now set-up in China and is operating a multi-billion dollar solar company. A very profitable one at that.
