It looks good EXCEPT for the PSU. Cheiftec isn't a well-known brand, so the PSU might not provide the 400W that it advertises.

If I were you, I'd change the PSU to this Antec TruePower TPII-430. It's a 430 watt PSU with two +12V rails, each with 17A, plenty to run your X1900XT.

Power Supply : Chieftec 400Watt

You should be good on the PSU and the rest of the system too.

You won't be able to run DirectX10 on that video card, other than that it seems not bad.

OK, but:

-400Watts PSU might quickly become a limiting factor if you upgrade. You should have got 500W+ from a good company to be on the safe side.

-No big deal, but 2GB would have been better if you plan to get Vista when it'll come out.

But if that was your budget, it's a quite good system I'd say.

What is it with DirectX10? There's aren't any graphics cards that can use it yet, neither are there any games that use it either.

Even when it appears it'll be a while before any games do because the vast majority of users will still be using DX9 cards.

Forget DX10 for at least the next 12 months.

I didn't meant it this way. All I said was that if you can't afford to pay more it's OK as it is. But if you can afford the extra, 2GB of memory and a 500W PSU would be better. Or, in other word, a Farrari is better than a Nissan, but a Nissan will be just fine if you can't afford a Ferrari... I hope you get it.

Also, why get a i975X mobo? Your E6400 would be served just as well by any P965 chipset mobo. I didn't see this the first time. You should save enough to get a better PSU or, if your lucky, 2GB of memory instead 8) .

Plus, don't bother with Dx10 card as their is none available yet.

No current video card can process DX10 effects, however, DX10 games will be backwards-compatible with DX9 (and probably even earlier) hardware.

If i were you I would look for a diffrent Power Supply. I had a 350watt Power Supply that came with a amd 2600+ i had bought about 4 years ago, that power supply lasted for 4 years. The only reason i replaced it was because fan was going bad and bought a new video card. I then upgraded to a 500w Cheiftec, and about 2 days after I got it My comp shut off I pushed the power button and stayed on for about 3 sec then off again tried again and nutin. Ended up burning my whole system up. If you are lucky you will get one that smells bad when you turn it on to let you know it is bad and not have happen to you what happened to me.

Well if you're gonna be buying a new vid. card now, especially a top-end one, its probably worth waiting 4 weeks to get one of the new nVidias.
That is, unless you like throwing money away as you'll need to renew your gpu in q1 (jan-march) 2007 when DX10 games like Crysis are out.

Dude buying complete systems is only for people too rich, lazy or stupid to build their own.

If you pay someone else to build your system for you, you will always pay more for the computer than its worth and they will always use cheap compnents wherever they think you won't notice.

No you get this wrong. I order this pc piece-by-piece nobody advised me
or told me what to get. Damn if only my parents trusted Net-Shopping
i could get a X6800 and 7900GT for the same price.Thats just so sad.

About the Cieftec PSU , my friend has one exactly like this , he has it
for almost 2 years and it cooparates perfectly with his 6800GT no
problems of any king and staff.
