Ok heres the background.

Say you just won 500 Million in the lottery. You have built your dream house, bought all your dream cars, and donated to a bunch of charitys. So after all that and putting money in savings you have decided to dedicate money towards building your dream computer setup. Keyword setup.

Heres the rules:

1. I want detail. Any components you put in this list I want Price and description. If you have a link, awsome. Also a total price is necesarry. I want to see who can spend the most amount of money.

2. It must include everything, monitor, speakers, mouse, keyboard, etc.

3. All components must be as if you bought them TODAY, you have just one day to design this system.

4. All components must be readily available to the average consumer. weather new or used. If you want to buy all your components on Ebay, feel free. So no military technology. :-)

5. Really detailed stuff like the desk your going to put it on isnt necessary. But be as detailed as possible.

Ill post mine soon. It will take a little while.

Thanks and have fun.

Why wouldnt you buy the cheetah's instead of the raptors with unlimited funds?

Also why would you get a crappy AMD chip when the 6800 will whoop that tail?

After spending that much on a hardware, he won't have enough left to pay for Windows.

well, i personally would buy the system mentioned above twice, but then i'd say, "oh, wait, i just bought two of the same system," and then i'd go all willie-wonka like and create a media frenzy and give out golden tickets, only instead of being golden, MY tickets would be like mauve or some unpopular color like that, so when people were talking about the tickets in daily conversation, they'd have to go to great lengths to explain to their friends what the color mauve looked like, and THEN, after 18 candidates would be selected from the millions, i'd make them all come to my magical chocolate factory, only it wouldn't be a chocolate factory, per se, because of course i would not make chocoaltes but rather own two grotesquely expensive computers, but anyway to get back to the point, i would tell 9 of the 18 candidates to leave immediately after arrival, and to determine which nine would be leaving, i'd count "one, two, one, two..." like they did back in gym class, and then we'd go on a magical adventure deep into my magical "chocolate" computer factory, where the candidates would slowly be widdled down by 100% harmless traps and my army of orange-colored midgits that of course i would not refer to as oompa-loompas, because i find that to be a derogatory term, and so do many oompa-loo...er... vertically challenged individuals, but, regardless, i would be left with only ONE candidate at the end, and then i'd ask them if they wanted my two grotesquely expensive computers, and of coures they'd say yes, but then they'd ask if their FAMLIY could use the grotesquely expensive computers, and, well, that just wouldn't do, and i'd have to have an emotional breakdown, the result of which would be my return to my crazy-dental professional father's house, and a terrible 115 min. waste of time in cinematic form. the end. 8O

How much does that new opteron based super computer that IBM recently built? Probably more than 500 milion? Well, either way, just get a customized super computer.

Or better yet, something you can actually use, get a customized risc processor that would put the x6800 to shame, just for braggint rights. :D

You just want someone to help you decide what parts to get with your computer :?

I'm here to watch, I'm just a newbie-- I can't suggest anything. Good luck with your builds 8)

yeah, i was going to say "i'd just buy a couple of crays, and put the country of AARDVARK into the cray club! hu hu hu!" but i figured that cray's may not game very well, and just decided to conformist-ize with the others. speaking of which: why aren't "superior" server procs used for gaming? i mean, can't they handle like a bajillion things at once? or do they not follow the "higher price=higher performance" mantra?

oh yeah? well i'd hire your homeless people to train a massive amount of tetrapolegic cats to jump through hoola hoops upside down in zero-g, and then i'd sell your homeless people BACK to you, only i'd market them as new and improved. heh. thats what i'd do.

ok im to lazy to do that, you keep the ones i sold you, and ill get some new ones. theres allways enough.
October 8, 2006 1:19:44 AM

ah, yes, there may always be enough, but i will have EXTRA capital

(expressed by the equation [500 mil from lottery]-[cost of tetrapolegic cats, hoola hoops, and zero-g]+[price of NEW AND IMPROVED homeless-es])

and you would have NOTEXTRA capital.

AMD's Opteron series was available for both socket 940 (200-series, for multi-CPU servers and workstations), and socket 939 (100-series, for high-end enthusiast systems). I say "was available" because, even though the CPUs are still available for purchase, they have been replaced by the socket 1207 Opterons.

Nonetheless, the socket 939 Opterons were pretty much the best San Diego Athlon 64s which were then underclocked for stability. Because they were literally hand-picked from teh production run, the socket 939 Opterons overclocked really well; 1GHz overclocks were not uncommon.

why in gods name would you pay 10,000 dollars for "various cables"???do you even know what you're talking about???or did you just look up the most expensive stuff you could find???personally i think you even made some of these prices up.Take a look at toms hardware 10,000 dollar system.even that is a little pricey for what it's got.BUt in order for me to give you a list and links to those places i find stuff,it would take me a week of reading and decision making to come up with something suitable for you.anyways i think that even almost 300,000 dollars is a bit much.unless you're looking for ET'S.Goodluck.

LOL Only one person has participated so far! Thanks Calyn. But yes this computer system is very shotilly put together. Now as for the audio equipment. Those speakers are real, but arnt sold anymore so I would have to buy them used. And Krell Full Balanced Power Mono Amplifiers are still sold but they are litterally like $50,000 Each and I would need seven of them.

Quote:

As far as cables goes, theres a company called Audioquest. They sell very high end cables. I think their Everest cables are solid silver conductors and start at about $10,000 for a pair of speaker cables.
October 8, 2006 5:18:41 PM

Qeldroma... why the fuk would you get and AM2? As was entioned before, the 6800 would RAPE the ANY AMD proc. Get the new ASUS board that was released a few days ago, throw a C2D EE in there until the C2Q comes out, and with unlimited funds why wouldn't you get a phase change cooler instead of an upper-range liquid cooler? And 10,000 for cables? How the hell is it even possible to spend 10,000 on cables? Maybe you should rethink your choice of components...
October 8, 2006 6:14:51 PM

Yes. It would be a much more expensive computer, but it would be pretty cool. Are you thinking about dropping 1200 on a mobo?
October 8, 2006 6:49:48 PM

well i would get
CPU: E6800
MOBO:p 5N32-SLI Deluxe
RAM: 2GB DRR2 800
VGA:i would wait a few months and get the GF 8800 GTX's ( i think thats the name?)
HDD:200GB seagate.
PSU:Fortron 800W
DVD-RW: LG DUAL Layer 16x
and a nice DELL 32" it would be my heaven

It is very possible to play games on a server mobo. My previous PC was based on a server board and two athlon MP's. Although if you want to use that board, I'd pick this one instead as it supports socket F, up to 8 of them with CPU expansion boards. 8O

Edit: Of course, only server OS's would use all of the cores (16 if using dual cores), and I don't know of a single released game that would use more than 2 cores
