Hey, folks,

I'm getting a little bit frustrated with my VENTO 3600. I cannot figure out how to get my front panel audio panel to work! I recently built my own machine and everything is working fine except for this one frustrating detail. I've spent hours looking inside the case to see if I forgot to connect a cable, but I just do not see what I'm looking for.

There are 4 USB ports, one mic input, and one speaker/headphone input on the front panel. The USB ports work fine.

I use an ASUS M2N-E mobo.

Any help? Let me know if I can provide any more information. Sound in the back works perfectly.

Thank you,

Andy

(Edit: I am using onboard sound and do not have a sound card. It occurs to me that I may need a sound card to connect to front panel audio, but I doubt it?)

Hey, mpilch,

Thanks for the suggestion. I will, although the biggest problem is that I don't know WHAT to connect to that spot on the motherboard-- I don't know where the front audio wire is; everything I can connect is connected, and it still doesn't work (except for the case alarm).

It did. I'm posting remotely, so I don't have access to the inside and manual right now (I apologize), but I could find no wire like that.

It's funny, just like you said, I've connected power, LED, reboot, etc. etc. and nothing is left. Also, it's very difficult to access the area immediately behind the front panel on the case, so I can't see what wires are coming directly from the ports in question.

Thanks for your continued help-- documentation on this issue online is very spotty and difficult to sort through.

It's a good idea, I'll take a look. Only downside is that I don't have any case modding/etc. tools, just basic electronic tools. There MAY be a way to get back there, it's pretty well-armored!

Okay. Looking at the mobo manual makes me think I'm looking for a "10-1 pin AAFP," which the manual calls the Azalia Front Panel Audio Connector. This is going to look different than the USB connectors or the LED connectors, correct? It sounds like a relatively large contraption. Hopefully it will be easy to spot.

Really? I'm under the impression I'm looking for something like this:

Well, I cracked open the case and found there were indeed wires connected to the appropriate destination. The issue, which I finally discovered after much poking and prodding, was that my BIOS was set for front panel HD Audio as opposed to AC97 legacy.

The mobo manual did a poor job of explaining this difference and I only realized, via a lucky web search, that the computer TOWER (connectors) is what determines the HD/AC setting, as opposed to any actual circuitry.

Thanks again for your help! Your wishes of luck solved the problem.
