hey
i built a comp for my brother back in august and it has been running fine up until last night. he just called me and said now when he presses the power button, the blue power light comes on on the case but nothing else really happens. any ideas what the problem could be? i was thinking a dead PSU but it is sending power to the power light... he said the monitor remains in "standby mode" and that neither of the cd drives work. please let me know if you have any ideas.

Hard to diagnose without being there...
Anyway, a PS can partially fail, so the power light doesn't really tell you much. It probably wouldn't hurt to have him get one of those $10 "power supply testers" like this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6899887102
When you say that nothing else "really" happens, does that mean nothing else at all happens?
