hey
i built a comp for my brother back in august and it has been running fine up until last night. he just called me and said now when he presses the power button, the blue power light comes on on the case but nothing else really happens. any ideas what the problem could be? i was thinking a dead PSU but it is sending power to the power light... he said the monitor remains in "standby mode" and that neither of the cd drives work. please let me know if you have any ideas.

i'll check but it seems unlikely that the computer sitting on the floor would all of a sudden have loose connections overnight. but it's worth checking. thanks for your help.

good point. i'll check it this weekend when i am physically at the computer. just so i can plan ahead, assuming that the connections are all tight, what are some possible culprits? would the fact that neither CD drive opens be attributed to a failed PSU? could there be an issue with the motherboard that could cause this? i figure if the CD drives should open as long as they are receiving power, regardless of motherboard connections or anything else for that matter. i would hope that the antec PSU isn't dead already only being used since august. and 500W should be plenty for that system.
thanks again for your input.

ok, yea, he wouldn't have opened it to mess with anything. i just got an RMA number from Newegg for the PSU just in case, cause i don't know when the time limit on that will expire, so we'll see when i go there. yea, hopefully the motherboard is fine, but i am leaning towards a PSU failure. we'll see though. ugh, now i'll have to some how explain to him how to install a PSU after everything is already installed... we'll see how that goes.
thanks for your help
