My friend has a dell computer (Don't know which model) and he would like to setup free internet service. The building we live in has a Cisco Aironet 1100 WAP within every floor.
I know he needs to buy an USB or internal Network Adapter (Don't know which one yet but leading toward USB) and an USB modem. Can someone explain which USB modem is needed along with which USB Network Adapter to buy as well? Any information is appreciated. Thanks
I keep a 12 foot pole between me and USB modems at all times... I have yet to see one that doesn't completely suck. If it is broadband service stick with an ethernet modem.
I have had very good luck with Linksys WUSB11 and WUSB54G adaptors. USB adaptors would probably be a good way to go because you can record all of thier mac addresses and issue them fairly easily. Then only those adaptors can get internet access but they can be easily moved between computers. Even so, you should probably connect all of those accesspoints to a RADIUS server for furthur authentication and ease of administration.
