Ive got a pretty straight forward question, I know that there are different nvidia graphics card manufactureres like gigabyte, asus, evga etc but what is the difference when it comes to buying one and do they work on all graphics cards. I mean does a gigabyte card work on an asus motherboard??
thanx
In reply to your question. the main difference would be price. but it goes deeper than that, the reason one would pay more for an asus gfx card is because on 1). quality of product, (ability to mass produce with less rejects) 2) most of the time.... end user/ customer service and support. 3) componantry might be of better quality than lesses well known or capable manufatures. here in South |Africa we get a brand called sparkel.... very peach... but then again, its not made from the same quality componants. the nvidia chips are of lower standard/quality than that of say XFX get. the cards performance might differ a little, but from what i know. when the sh1t hits the fan, you want to be able to get good support, and speedy swapouts if need be. i currently have a gainwoood 7800GTX 512 and it was running on an MSI motherboard, and now is running on an ABIT board... so as for compatability, they "should" work with each other.
Please pardon spelling or grammer faults, i tend to get carried away typing and not look up.
If a card is branded msi, asus, evga, sapphire or xfx etc. isn't relevant when it comes to compatibility. It's the same gpu on either of these cards. So if the gpu works with the motherboard, it won't matter what brand the card is. The main difference between brands is the price, prestige and associated expectations like the guy above sais. You may expect an asus board to last longer or may expect better service with an asus board, than you would with say an ecs or if graphics, a sapphire or point of view card.
The actual difference between boards is hard to spot in most cases. Most brands rely on reference designs and are virtually the same, others fit faster memory chips, different cooling solutions etc. to get higher clock speeds and the like. That's the one case where a different brand might make a difference. A standard point of view 6600gt card may score you 6000 points in 3dmark05, and a xfx version with higher clocks may score 7000. But if one works in a your nforce4 motherboard, the other will too. And if the board is from asus, it'd still work in a soltek board with nforce4
(ps. I got no idea what these cards would score, and other periferials in a board can cause problems, so all nforce 570 boards aren't nessecarily the same)
Most of vendors just use reference boards so they'll all the same. They try to differentiate by price, software bundles (adding games, etc.) and some will add better heatsinks/fans, or overclock them which adds cost.
As long as you get the right type for your socket (AGP or PCI-e) then pretty much any card will work on any motherboard. Sometimes vendors provide drivers that have trouble and you may need to find another driver.
Any graphics card should run on any MB provided they use the same interface.(eg;AGP/PCI-X)In this regards there is major compatability between MB manufacturers as bothe interfaces are standard. Some third party manufacturers use lower quality hardware such as capacitors,ram,etc....While others use high end components. But in truthe they all use the same GPU'S.Also the warranties offered by different companies differ. Some have life time warranties and offer a step-up program,where-as others only offer three year warranties. All usually offer varying clock speeds and performance. The higher the speeds the higher the price.Hope this has helped some.Goodluck.
