Hi everyone,

I'm building a new computer (my first build!), but I'm not sure which power supply to purchase. First, details on my build:

C2D6400
GIGABYTE GA-965P-S3 Mobo
2GB DDR2 800
nVidia 7600GT (to tide me over for a year or two until DX10 cards settle down)

I've been scouring Newegg and a bunch of other places, looking for something around $50-80, 500W minimum. I've narrowed it down to a couple choices, although I'd be glad to hear of other suggestions:

Rosewill RP550-2 2.01 550W: Seems pretty solid overall. My default choice. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817182017

Ultra V-Series 600-Watt: Ridiculously cheap for a 600W PSU because of a deal, but I don't know really know anything about the manufacturer, and that's making me suspicious. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?sku=ULT33133

Antec SmartPower 2.0 500W: Looks good, but many reviews on Newegg have said that it blows up after about 6-8 months. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817103937

So, any thoughts or other suggestions? Thanks in advance for all your help!

I don't have personal experience with any of the three you mentioned. I have an Enermax "SLI" and "PCIe" ready, with two 12v rails rated at 18 amps each. Its doing me a good job so far.

From what I've read in other long time posters here is that Ultra's are POS, and Antec's are pretty decent.

The PSU I had before was a no name 550w that gave up the ghost in about 14 months. (And I don't OC)

best o luck to u

you should also buy a psu that supports pci-e you won't need it for a 7600 but when you do upgrade im sure the next card will need it.

I just installed the Antec you linked in a E6400/eVGA 7900GTO system and so far so good.

The fan is quiet and the modular design is nice. It comes with a ton of cables but since this is my first PSU purchase in a long time I'm no sure if all of the other products do this as well.

It's only been running for 4 days now but it seems solid, no issues with running full load, no artifacts in the GPU with it losing power, etc.

It was $64 dollars last week, shot up $10 : /
