If you could buy the OS, yes because Media edition is just
an add-on to XP Pro, but it is only sold to manufacturers
who build systems designed to handle it well and properly.
It is not a retail product without the computer.

Sorry, Jim, but you are incorrect on all counts: -

1) Vanilla XP can *NOT* be upgraded to MCE because you cannot use an OEM
licence to perform an upgrade, only a clean installation.

2) It's available OEM only, not as an upgrade.

3) MCE *IS* available to the public, but only through selected OEM
suppliers - you cannot walk into PC World and pick it up off the shelf. Of
course, like all OEM products, it must be sold with an item of
non-peripheral hardware.
