strange sound question - please help

ok, we know the sound card works - an audigy 2 zs, tested it in another comp
this does not work at all in the comp.

onboard sound gives just annoying tones if it works at all.

makes me to believe the motherboard is bad, anyone have an idea.


specs on comp:

P4 2.2
half gig of ram (generic i think - bought from comp usa)
ABIT sd7-533 motherboard

this comp is 4+ years old and dusty. ram is about 1 year old.
dust killed another mb recently, which also makes me believe the mb is toast.

hi.
you can try ,if did not do it already, ot use an other
pci slot ,or to be sure that the slot you use is working try,
to remove a working card in an other slot and atach there the sound card.
did you gonfigure propertly the sound options?
i mean which card will use the system for sound.
maby this will solve the problem.

yes, tried different pci slot - still doesnt work

also did disable and enable the sound on mb, still nothing

maybe the install of windows is fudged? i doubt it everything else works fine.
