After a successful installation of SP2 and after using it for several
weeks with no problems, are there installation files or backups that can
be safely deleted?

Hi Richard,

Yes, that's a good idea. Here you go for the instructions:

Tidying up after installing SP2

Here is another version, from Torgeir Bakken:

I looked at the AumHa site and have one question. I found the hidden
folder C:\Windows\$NTServicePackUninstall. That appears to be the one I
need to delete. My question is: what about the 19 folders beneath
it--they all begin with "$" and have the word "install" buried in the
folder name. The folder that follows this group is simply "Adins."

Do I leave the 19 folders and just delete the
C:\Windows\$NTServicePackUninstall?

Thanks,
Richard

Installing SP2 is *supposed* to remove the uninstall information for older
updates (since those older updates have been blended into SP2) but it
doesn't always complete that step. When this happens, you can remove the
$NTUninstall*$ folders manually (simple delete of folders).

Thanks. I was wondering what all those folders were. They came with the
computer and I added SP2 via a MS CD. As you say, SP2 must not have
removed the old uninstalls of SP1.
I deleted all 19 of the folders and removed all System Restore
checkpoints but the last.
