I bought an x1300 to use in a second PC that doubles as an HTPC. That has only lead to about 1000 dollars of my time spent fighting a hopelessly buggy driver. Not that ATI would care.
My second monitor is 1360x768. That is a SIXTEEN BY NINE aspect ratio. Not that ATI would care.
Theater mode has a lot of VERY confusing settings that should win a Nobel prize for obfuscation, but two settings are very clear. Extended desktop Overlay is set to "Theater Mode (full screen)". Video aspect ratio is set to "Scale to full screen". That is TWO settings that say "FULL SCREEN". Not that ATI would care.
Of course, after all this work, ATI assumes all monitors are 4:3 aspect ratio and "letterboxes" high definition video into the 16:9 monitor. This produces a squashed picture. Not that ATI would care.
Furthermore, the settings to disable Theater mode overlay on the extended monitor do not work at all. TV fills that monitor no matter what the setting. Not that ATI would care.
Now that ATI is swallowed up, who IS going to care about providing features for HTPC use? And why don't review sites help us out by exposing the pervasive problem with video driver quality?
