unwanted ghostly stripes on scan

I have a Canoscan 650u ... and after 4 years it's started to show vertical
bands, the band started thin and now it's two bands like this:

At first I thought it was a reflection and somehow the bar the lamp
slides along is reflecting off the glass, cuz it seems located just above
it. I'm somewhat reluctant to take it apart to clean the inside part of the
glass only to find the problem is more serious, cuz this Canon is glued
together basically ... but I will if I gotta. I would think any moisture
would clear up over time ... but this ain't clearing up.

OR is it something more serious ... etc ... Thanks. If it looks familiar or
whatever, let me know.
