Is it just me...

Can anyone using the .co.uk site see the contents of the site feedback and forum related sections.

I tried to post in it but got a message "yes. But actually no." and had to go back to the previous page.

I reckon they have changed the names and fcuked something up.

So, is it just me?

Nope - same here and has been for two days. I thought it was just me after I posted something but have been assured in a PM that isn't the case. I haven't changed any settings here so I'm sure there must be a slight flaw in the site.

It's a bit suspicious that both sections say they contain 6396995 posts and the last post was at the same time by the same person... I think it's Buggered!

Down boy.

O.k that is good to know in a way. Hopefully they get that fixed.

It was suggested to me it's because I'm stuck with the UK site which is not working well. I'd have to mess with my Hosts file to prevent the automatic redirect, apparently. It's isn't a history thing because I tried in Linux with a fresh browser that's never been here before so I assume it's sniffing out my IP and branding me suitable only for a UK redirect.

June 6, 2010 12:07:19 PM

Broken for me also.

You can get the US site from the UK. All you have to do is expand out the list of flags in the top right of the page and select the US one. Just done it myself and can view the missing sections.
June 6, 2010 12:25:28 PM

You can access the US site if you use Tor and select a US (Dare I say it) point of entry.
June 6, 2010 1:19:14 PM

I can get to the us site, but I cannot post, everytime I open them it redirects me to the uk site and I just hope it sorts it soon. Nt for any other reason but it is another thing about the .co.uk site that does not work.

Such as the mythreads tab in the right hand side box, will only display things posted in this section not any other so I don't know the point of having a .com and .co.uk section if they are not going to make each equal.

Can't these people even keep a simple bulletin board working?

Sheesh.

It's a US conspiracy to protect their systems against information warfare and evil Scottish brave heart wannabies.

That or a pre-emptive slap in the face for when we kick their asses on Saturday..

[#0005ff]But in the end you clearly decided to smear our goalkeeper's gloves with your nasty GM produced peanut butter. :D  Oh well, a draw's better than total defeat and at least we have oen man to blame which is what we do best over here.

As to the Scots, we have to keep them happy and if we lose a match that seems to do it. Watching England is the nearest they get to these big competitions.

Actually, old chap, we call it football over here and if you'd had the good sense to remain in our Empire we would have taught you all we apparently don't know! :D

Throughout all this friendly banter, is anyone attempting to fix the broken UK site? I still can't get to Site Feedback or Forum Feedback despite having reluctantly edited my Hosts file.

How the fcuk I'll find the motivation to head back to work tomorrow I don't know.

Chimp, you should do the job for the sheer joy of it, the pay should be a bonus.
July 22, 2010 7:16:26 AM

This is why I am currently in the process of changing industries. Industrial engineering is now starting to get incredibly boring...
July 22, 2010 7:31:06 AM

I down scaled in job (from Engineering to Training).

I reckon I'm going to work myself to death in engineering so while I got years to enjoy, do training and enjoy the rest of your life.

It's challenging, I learn more than I could do in engineering (and let's face it - it's more admin these days than engineering) plus I travel a lot. More so if I'm good at it and in demand.

Oman in two weeks time
Belgium in Sep
Holland in Oct
Holland again in Nov

In engineering I'd have to go there once I've saved for 10 years. I like my job currently!
July 22, 2010 5:47:22 PM

I'm thinking it's time for change...

Let rip at my manager this morning, he ran off crying and told me to take it up with his boss. I just can't be bothered, nothing will change. So, where to go from here? Strangest might be slightly dreaming but I take the sentiment, I've got at least another 30 years of this crap to do so I might as well enjoy it, even if that does mean from the top of a bus and not the driving seat of a 7 series.

Quite what I would do instead of IT I don't know, everything else has just been basic job stuff and nothing I'd make a career on. People have suggested teaching but with three teachers in my family I don't fancy the competition, plus I'd get done for kicking the little sh1ts...

July 22, 2010 6:31:38 PM

Yes, the change to what question.

Do you want to work retail, a trade, an outdoor job, the police, charity work, politician.

The choices are endless but the opportunities are not.
July 22, 2010 7:21:03 PM

I think I'd rather do something skilled, for example I'd rather design and build bike frames than sell them or promote them. I'd need to maintain a technical / hands on type of position by nature of my character. I also like a change once in a while, if I'm on a project I like to focus for six months or so then move on to something new.

Staying in IT I'd guess more towards contracts and maybe more HW would be the direction I'd go. Somebody asked me if I wanted a Job or a Career, I think the answer is a trade, something I'm skilled in but not chasing climbing corporate ladders.

You avoid the climbing corporate ladders bit if you're your own boss in a one-man band. There's no-one to argue with and if company policy is crap, you're to blame. It's quite amazing how quickly you knuckle down to the idea that the governor's usually right. :D  He's also there all the time, has to pay twice for all his holidays and hasn't got anyone to whom to hand a sicknote but apart from that, it's a great life.

You obviously have the skills if you're "in IT", although I'm never too sure what that means - so start while you're still employed, build up a little business then go it alone when it can support you. Because businesses can go down as well as up, you need to be doing more than one thing so you can develop your other ideas as you gop along and introduce sidelines or separate businesses as and when they've proved themselves.

Don't employ a woman with a viable womb and don't forget you aren't supposed to ask them. Men can conceive well into their seventies so forget them as well because they get free (expensive to you) time off to be a father. Soon the law will give them time off for the ruddy conception as well, I daresay so remember from the outset that you're on your own in this.

I've worked for myself or as a Director of my own companies since 1979 and wouldn't have it any other way. Now, because I've cut my living expenses to a minimum I can choose only to have one string to my bow but previously, I've always had to have a backup of at least one other line and so will you for thirty years to come. By the way, does that take account of the then retirement age and the possibility medical science can keep you alive until you're 120?

Just don't consider starting a PC repair business within a twenty mile radius of Milton Keynes. Competition is not welcome here. :D

You know you want to do it and you know you can do it - you're only seeking confirmation but that has to come from within.

July 24, 2010 11:49:09 AM

Yeah... self employment is good, but then it's good having other people to blame at times ;)  I'm mid 30's so thanks for depressing me with the reminder that I should probably have said the next 50 years. Your last line is ringing with me, sometimes it is just about taking a leap of faith.

Anyhow, things can change a little in 24hrs...

Bitch like bastard that you are going to leave, get call late Friday evening from a little further up the organisational tree asking what they need to do to keep you as they can see it causing big issues if you left...

Nothing definitive yet but as with any situation there are always options. It's worth me holding on for another month as at least they are going to pay a small company bonus in lieu of pay rises.

They'll either sort it or give me enough cash to pay for some business cards to be printed :)

July 26, 2010 8:06:33 AM

The outfit that I'm working for (until the end of this week) have offered me several interesting incentives to stay on.

Even with the bonuses, pay-rise, and benefits, moving to the new company will STILL net me a 40% increase, so yeah... plus, I need new challenges.
July 26, 2010 8:34:59 AM

The best way to get a decent increase is to change jobs yearly...

Got the t-shirt.
July 26, 2010 5:50:16 PM

August 11, 2010 3:43:24 AM

Did you pay? I can't recall seeing your CC number in this post?
August 17, 2010 4:47:19 PM

Good afternoon Chimp.

You? Self employed?

HAHAHAHAHAHA

Hope this helps.

Tom.
