need equation for solving fuel consumption on ships under varying speeds and distances. eg, Ship traveled 1651 miles at 20 knots and used 580 tons of fuel, how much more fuel will be consumed if the ship increases speed to 25 knots with 1790 miles to go?

New fuel consumption = F
Old = f
old speed = s
new speed = S

F= (S^3 * f) / s^3

This question is asked on the USCG exam. Yes you can solve for it.
