I am looking to upgrade to Radeon X850PRO 256MB http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6814102606 from my old 9800 Pro (which I bought 2 years ago for $200+ /cry), the X850PRO scored nicely on the VGA shoot out. I can't afford the X1950 seeing how I have bills to pay and a ring to buy.
I used the Oblivion as the benchmark... although I don't know how visually intense the game it compared to WoW, (I wish they would put wow on there seeing how more people play that game than any other game, I think its up to 6 million people now).
**now for the question**
How does Oblivion compare to World of Warcraft? It says the FPS is 21 in oblivion but what will that equal in WoW, especially in Burning Crusade? Or a better choice of words would be, what game or benchmark on his list best resembles WoW’s graphics?
And why do place like new egg and best buy have the Radeon X800 priced at $300+ but the Radeon X850PRO at $129. I thought the higher the number the better the card was.. I am so confused on the numbering “policy” of ATI.
This is my system i am currently running:
Processor
Model : AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2600+
Speed : 2.08GHz
Model Number : 2600 (estimated)
Mainboard
System BIOS : Phoenix Technologies, LTD 6.00 PG
Mainboard : SiS-741
Total Memory : 1GB DDR-SDRAM
well, wow isn't very visually intense at all... wow is ALOT more ram dependent beucause of the type of game it is. the same with a fast hd, you will benifit from that too. also processer is a little more importan in wow than it is in most other games (again because of the type of game) this is not to say that a better gpu won't help but i used to play wow on a 9550 with no problems at all high ( no aa or multi sample) oh yeah and the x800 and the x850 pro might be because the x800 is an ati card and i think it is discontunied (not sure) and it might be an xt too and i agree the number system sucks. just look at benchies not prices and numbers.
and also, i'd try to stick it out with the 9800 pro till you can do an overhaul... agp is a dead upgrade so if you ever want to build a new comp you can use the old vid card as a temp holdover card if need be.
if you DO decide to get the X850 PRO, you would probably be able to mod it somewhat, I enabled the "dormant" part of the chip and overclocked it some, I seen a boost of approx 40 - 50% depending on the game and such. Essentially I'm running the X850 platinum edition after modding it.
That would be something you could do to get a little xtra from the card. But like others ppl have said, it is somewhat of a dead end, but you have to do with what you have. I"m happy with the X850 Pro atm.
Eh I think I will stick it out with my 9800 pro till the first of the year. Seeing how new chips are coming out and the prices will drop (insider knowledge) around the first of the year. Plus it will allow me to see exactly what I will need for The Burning Crusade http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/burningcrusade
The Burning Crusades is just an expansion pack to WOW. Expect it to run similarly to how WOW plays now with your current system.
actually the graphc are a bit different and alot more taxing on the system. i play wow closed beta, but on a special system so i can't compair it to my home system.
you will probably ask why i don't play CB at home, it is beacuse i don't have time.
