I'm bidding on a pair of 6600GT's to use in my system in SLI mode!

I was wondering if i upgraded the HSF To a Zalman VF700, would i be able to get much of an overclock out of them!? Has anyone else had much of an increase in perfomance!?

Any help is appriciated! Thanks :)

The 6600GT will over clock fairly well.you should be able to get 550core/1.1mem.I would not push it too much past that as it may lock up on you.But hey, never know till you try.I will say one more thing.DO NOT LOOK FOR EXTRA PIPES.there are none. And if you do,at the very least you will have to re-install.At the worst, well you buy a new card.I know cause I have been down that road with that card.Goodluck.

Thanks for the advice! I am looking forward to getting these cards!

I've heard that you can not unlock any more pipes, which i am happy with! I would just like to try and overclock the core and mem a bit more! Even just a 5% increase would make me happier, as i just enjoy overclocking, tweaking and playing around to achive better results!

Thanks again :D

I don't know about how they will overclock in SLI, but I have an XFX 6600GT and I push it 20% with watercooling(had to replace the stock fan before I even overclocked it). I do get some artifacting occasionally, but not much...

6600GT's over clock like mad. im not sure about SLi as i have never tried, but my single 6600GT easily hit 575/1.3 off stock 500/900 speeds. i always wanted to add it into my water cooling loop, but never got around to it. i would love to see waht one of those could go with water! by the way that was with teh stock HSF from MSI. with a zalman cooler, you should be able to get it around 600mhz on core speed.

as a side note, i got it up to 585/1.3 but it was running warm. this was also on the auto detect setting in the driver. never artifacted at those speeds. one of my favorite pieces of hardware to this date.

I had my BFG 6600gt agp at 589/1200 for over a year with a aftermarket zalman cooler. I think I took it to 600/1200 at one point till it artifacted, hit 4k 3d05 with it with that setting.

Well if he doesnt know any better then I'm going to keep my mouth shut

Hah

Would you honestly turn down a pair of 6600GT's for £52 including postage!?

Considering the price.. i don't think many people would, and i know there are better than this out there but it all boils down to one simple word : budget!

Anyway, thanks everyone who had some constructive comments! Stock the cars are 500/1000 so i am hoping to get 600/1200 stable with the Zalman coolers!

Will keep you posted of my results!

i used to play oblivion with my 6600GT @ 575/1100 i would like to see 2 of them at 600 core clock. dont know how well the fps would be but it would be interesting to see some lil old cards OC'd like that and in SLi. good luck, be safe, and most of all, have fun!

Found some very interesting results on a thread on Nvidia forum! A user has reported this - 600/1500 - 42 idle - 57 load! Running single but i'm confident i should be able to get near what i want!

How much are you paying for them? I'd never suggest SLI'd 6600GTs unless you're getting them for around $100.

Apparently he wasn't bidding on mine, but I had bought them a few months ago for $119 for both :) Sold them this morning and they went for $160...But he reports a European seller and I am from America.

£52 which is $97! That is including postage too, again as i have stated i would get a much higher spec'd card - but i could not turn these down at this price!

It is a bit of a bargain. But you could of bought a single 7300GT DDR3 and overclocked it for around the same price (saw one for £58 on www.overclockers.co.uk). When overclocked i have seen it hit 5000 in 3dmark05.

I already have a Geforce 7300GS and have had sooo many problems with the 7300 and playing BattleField that i had to steal my dads card, which is an Asus EN6600 - since using the 6600 i had no problems at all and it runs like a dream!

There is a MASSIVE difference between the 7300GS and the 7300GT DDR3. The 7300GT DDR3 is a better card than the 7600GS, and even the x1600xt! The GT is bascially a 7600GT with 4 pipelines and a vertex shader or two removed from it.

Personally, I have a Leadtek A6600GT TDH (this is the AGP model) which came with 500MHz for the GPU and 900HHz for the memories.

The maximum for the memories is 1180MHz (it can't reach 1200). No artifacts. I ussualy keep it at 1100MHz.

For the GPU, I get a lot of artifacts around 575MHz. I run it at 565MHz with no problems.

So, that's around 13% overclock, and 13% increase in performance (measured in 3dMark05).

Also, this card runs very warm. 40C idle, but 85C in full load (there was no major increase in temps with the overclock - only 5C).
